Mangalore, Mar 22: "Currently, there are many Public Private Partnership (PPP) projects going on across the country in various sectors like power transmission, power distribution, airports, ports, highways, water, urban infrastructure and others," said Dr Amita Prasad IAS, director general of Administrative Training Institute, Mysore.

She was addressing a two-day workshop on Public Private Partnership (PPP) organized by the infrastructure development department (IDD), Bangalore, and Administrative Training Institute, Mysore in collaboration with Mangalore City Corporation at the city corporation meeting hall here on Friday March 22.

Around 450 people are being trained under this programme, which is the third of its kind in the state. The other two were held at Bangalore and Dharwad.

"Every development requires an investment, which must be carried out by the government or any private body. The state government has invested on many development projects," she said.

"Good infrastructure includes good roads, healthcare facilities and other essential amenities. The main objective of this workshop is to create awareness about the Public Private Partnership programme and to deal with it. All officers should give appropriate feedback about the programmes to the government," she said.

N Prakash, deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada said, "We are now happy to deal with PPP projects as we are learning more about them, while earlier it was very difficult. There is huge demand by the public but to fulfill all the needs, there must be available resources. The government cannot fulfill the needs alone, it should seek the help of the private sector.  Most of the Public Private Partnership projects have succeeded but only a few projects like NICE have failed."

Dr K N Vijayprakash, DK zilla panchayath CEO said that development is required in many sectors like agriculture, horticulture, industrializations and there are open opportunities for Public Private Partnership projects. Mangalore is a good place for the promotion of tourism which can developed by the Public Private Partnership projects and attract a number of tourists to the city, he said.
