Mangalore, Nov 9:
A state-wide protest will be held if the Anti-Superstition Bill is passed in the coming winter session of the state Assembly, warned Hindu Jagarana Vedike leader Satyajeet Suratkal, addressing a press meet here on Saturday, November 9.

"The Hindu Jagarana Vedike strongly condemns this act of the Congress-led state government in getting ready to declare the religious practices of the Hindus as superstitions and pass the Anti-Superstition Bill to curb them," he said.

"With this Bill, the anti-Hindu Congress government together with a few so-called intelligent people is trying to hurt the sentiments of the Hindu majority and stop them from observing their religious practices and rituals," he lashed out.

"The Hindu community has been living with certain faith, beliefs, rituals and practices. This Congress government is trying to play with the sentiments of the Hindus. Rituals, beliefs, practices are things that are subject to an individual. It is indeed a shame that the government is poking its nose into these matters," he said.

"Hindu Jagarana Vedike will not tolerate any oppression against the Hindus. If at all this Anti-Superstition Bill is passed in the session, then the Hindu Jagarana Vedike will hold a state-wide protest," he warned.

"Just these Bills or laws cannot control everything. But a few anti-social elements or practices can be stopped or changed through social awareness," he added.

Vasudeva Gowda, Ganapathi Bangera, Kishore Kumar and Subash Padil were present.

    Mr. Prabu.
If you watched the movie "Wednesday" the common man doesnt say his name coz one starts finding religion in a name. Your eagerness to know my name and reading your comment just makes the above belief true.
i wish not to comment any further coz you attribute all ur disagreements to "psuedo's" and people from other religion. that itself shows the way you think and probably nothing of such positive changes will be accepted by you as an individual.

Mr. Valerian Dsouza: The foot washing what JESUS displayed while the disciples were in a turf war for leadership is entirely different. We Christians will have to wash the feet of even other religious people as Pope Francis has displayed to show our humility. There is no money doing business in that. Humility has an overpowering spiritual power behind it.

    Mr KR Prabhu,
My disagreement would be nothing compared to an array of disagreements you have got.
First understand that the bill is not based on any religion. So pls. grow up and dont take anyting and everything as a move to tarnish the respectable Hindu community. Public Sentiments are more than any political decision. Hence any Anti Hindu Moves will be opposed constructively by larger audiences
    2. On your reference to "Thene Habba"- pls. Understand wasting paddy is still ok when compared to wasting a life. When someone kidnaps you, and wants to behead you in the name of sacrifice, will u support it or want to run away from that place?
    3. Sometime when you feel your points make sense, check the no. of disagreement to your comment. At that moment, it is best to reflect on the way you think instead of forcing someone to agree to your opinion with baseless counterarguments.

First, it would have better if you mentioned the true name kept by your parents. Anyhow no issues. To read in between the lines of many comments here, any fool will understand to which religion this anti superstition belief meant for. I doubt your capacity to read/undrstand the written comments. Forget about Hindu,I never criticise any thing by religion. It is up to readers like you what we call as "psuedos" to understand things in a way that suits their mentality/mindset(predetermined)Hindus are are always open to banning rituals like those mentioned by you. Read various comments reiterating this points by others too.
Finally,a mention regarding 'disagree'factors, those are put in here by psuedos sect first with out reading the matter considering "bitter truths",religion, caste, politics etc., which is a prime requisite.
I do not believe in hate comments, however some times might look so which are purely due to instigation. I do not scratch my head on that count.

But I was a beneficiary of a Superstition for more than 2 years. Four years back I was transferred to Mysore, and my family was in Mangalore. So every alternative week I used to come to Mangalore for week-end. Saturday night Mangalore Bus used to be always full except for seat number 13, and I always used to occupy that seat and travel comfortably where as others who booked tickets much before me had to travel in last seats jumping whole night without sleep. I am thankful to this European superstition foolishly followed even in India.
In Many high rise buildings in Mumbai & Begaluru, they dont have Floor number 13. Instead they call it floor No: X or just name 13th floor as 14th floor and 14th floor as 15 floor and likewise. No one ever thinks that number 13 is auspicious for Hindus.

If it is really bad and misguiding the public with lot of money poll why can't we stop it. Hope for the right decision soon in the matter.Thanq.

If you look carefully the 'stakes' are large when it comes to all religious beliefs! Many a religious or practically all religious institutions are based on some 'beliefs' not necessarily with scientific backing! This edifice if it crumbles will spell the 'death knell' for many! Those who are at the helm of these are
supposedly all knowing, near to God
etc! IF SUCH organizations are brought under check then the 'menace' can be brought under check!NOT an easy task this....
In any case, now, there seems to
be no scientific approach to the problem, just an 'eyewash* to make a 'hash* of things further....

Mr.Steevan Very nice arguments. First, be prudent and faithful at least to yourself. If practices are unharmful, though superstitious could be practiced. No problem. For Hindus no such relaxations? And if thoughts are truthful, they are wrong/right based on religions!

We dont want a report formed by Nasthiks to be implemented on Asthiks. Ashtiks have their basic Fundamental Right given by the Constitution, the Right to Faith & Religious Practices. If our Budhijeevis don't wish let them not, believers can have their faith practices, be it religious rights, pooja, jyothishya, vastu, etc. Practices as Sathi, Child Marriage & Human Sacrifice are long forgotten & no where found in practices (except for some rare cases). HJV has stated the thinkings of common public. Good work by HJV.

I fail to understand how does Anti-Superstition Bill become Anti Hindu. Are these uneducated ruffians now going to dictate to us about the value and practices of Hinduism?

These have formed an organization in the name of Hinduism to earn a quick buck. Hinduism has existed for more than 5000 years and these fly-by-night organizations misinterpret Hinduism as per their whims and fancies in order to please RSS/BJP.

Hope RSS, BJP, BDS, HJV, RS, VHP, VH and I forget the handles of so many other groups will organize that State wide bundh on one particular day instead of on various days so that the public will not be put to difficulties if they observe same on different days.

Recently we have been reading of such threats of Statewide bundhs from every tom, dick and harry of RSS\BJP for each and everything and also calls for the resignation of ministers, officials, governors, police officers and many others. ( I do not know how to name those tom\dick and harry in Kannada.)

If their aim is only to create problems for the people of the State, people should show them their place like they showed earlier.

These RSS\BJpians are counter aspirants to the aspirants. They want to scuttle everything that will be beneficial to the communities. This is not only Statewise, even at the Center they have been a hindrance for any processes forward.

It is time people of the country realized this and keep them in place from where such hindrance is
    not there from them.
Our country will surely prosper then.

Mangalore: An answer to critics of proposed Anti-Superstition Bill

    Prof Narendra Nayak
    President
    Federation of Indian Rationalist Associations

Mangalore, Nov 8: The attitude of the parties, particularly the BJP opposing the Anti-Superstition Act reminds one of the opposition to the law banning Sati, child marriage etc. At that time the reactionary elements of the society, that is the forefathers of the opponents of the Act today, vociferously opposed these progressive measures under the guise of religious freedom. It was these same people who used to tonsure widows, excommunicate those who cross the seas, those who had eaten with dailts and so on. Now the descendants of these elements are opposing the banishment of some inhuman traditions like 'Made Snana', sacrifices in the name of appeasement of gods and so on.

I hail the forward thinking of persons like Narendra Nayak and many others. I fail to understand why this anti superstition bill applies only to Hindu beliefs and not for other communities. In Christians one the previous day of Good Friday Bishop completes a ritual by washing feet of 12 persons to commemorate Lord Jesus washing feet of his 12 disciples before crucifying. One should not criticize this for whatsoever reason. Is this not a super superstition? Only Christian brothers have to answer. Hindus always left behind some superstional beliefs/practices like sati, child marriage etc., which are really needed to be banned along with practices of black magic, fake astrologers doing the practice by putting big hoadings, staying luxury hotels etc., Undivided DK dist will have heavy turoil if the proposed bill is enacted as the dist is its own heritage since centuries belonging to Tulunaadu. In India every place/state is a center of rich heritage, practices prevalent since time time immemorial but unharmful to anybody.
Every man/woman believes in superstitions matters, at least does not doubt about his/her parenthood. He/She believes just the words of mother who tells her/him who is his/her father. Here no DNA test is insisted/sought for to prove that he/she is anti super superstitious including Mr.NN.

KRPrabhu, Mangalore/. As a Christian I will answer your question. Washing feet have nothing to harm the human body and it has no special arrangements like burning or destroying any element of the natures essence. You have quoted wrong thought on this occasion unlike Hindu brothers there are many things which gives no significance to the life where we live today.

Correct. Far less superstitions in all the religions can be a great relief to the public. Anything which will endanger the human lives and degradation of any caste or social status of people must be eradicated. These are all man-made traditions down through the ages, and nobody dared to question it due to the fear of divine retribution. While sitting at the bed, when I was shaking the leg, one old person told me "that is a sin". I was afraid to do that? The reason behind his advice was, in the olden days, old people used a container to spill their red saliva (chewing tobacco), if that is hit while moving the leg, that will be such a great mess to clean. But the word "sin" was used. How many such sins were created down through the centuries?

GOD, does he find some joy in human degradation and endangering lives?

    Right Mathew,
Washing of the feet of Apostles
fact and the same is in the scriptures.
Lord Jesus did this to show humility, and servant leadership.
For the Apostles wanted to know who is greatest among them, Jesus showed that least among you is the greatest!
Such humility and traditions with true meanings are blessing to the humanity.
No comparison can be drawn with inhuman superstitions and Washing of feet as Jesus did!
