ATM attack: Footage of man resembling assailant surfaces in Andhra

Bangalore, Nov 24 (PTI): Officials of a PSU bank in Andhra Pradesh's Anantapur district police today said they are in possession of CCTV footage of a man resembling the attacker of a woman bank officer at an ATM kiosk in Bangalore on November 19.

The footage, captured on November 11 and 12, shows the man bearing a striking resemblance with the attacker of the Corporation Bank officer Jyothi Uday (38).

The man was seen withdrawing money on two occasions from the ATM of the bank in Kadiri town of Anantapur, police said.

He was wearing the same shirt and also carrying the same bag as was seen in the footage of the gruesome attack at the ATM kiosk, police said quoting the bank officials.

"The bank authorities have informed us that the man (in their ATM CCTV footage) bears a resemblance to the accused wanted in connection with the attack on a woman in a ATM kiosk in Bangalore. We are in the process of collecting footage," a senior police officer told PTI over phone from Kadiri.

The matter is being further verified as the Bangalore assailant is also suspected to be behind the murder of an elderly woman in Dharmavaram town of Anantapur on November 10 and then using the ATM card of her son and withdrawing amounts from the ATM centre in Kadiri town, the officer explained.

Apart from Andhra Pradesh Police, a team of Bangalore police is also in touch with the bank officials, he said, adding that no one has been arrested so far for the Bangalore and Dharmavaram incidents.

"As of now there is no evidence to connect this man (shown in the Kadiri ATM) of having a role in Dharmavarm murder incident, but we are further investigating all angles," according to the officer.

Around 4-5 teams of Bangalore police were trying to trace the assailant and on November 20 picked up a man from Hindupur town of Anantapur to whom he allegedly sold the mobile phone handset of the victim.

Jyothi was brutally attacked with a machete by the unidentified man at the ATM kiosk in the heart of Bangalore.

The culprit may be run away to Nepal boarder and he might be changing his appearance and bag and weapon must be thrown in a gutter. So doubtful is always dangerous like harassing innocents and releasing them after punishment without evidence.

Krishna Karkala - please note that He could have washed the Shirt and wore it again and again as he is not carrying any other dress with him. Police have said that the bag he was carrying weapons was also the same. TV channels have shown both footage of Bangalore and Kadiri side by side for comparison ,and there is an uncanny resemblance.

@krishna - just to add on - if he can commit the crime without worrying of CCTV capturing , he wouldn't bother to wear the same shirt and walk around.

The way he is entered into ATM and closed the Shutter, we can assume that its not his first entry into this ATM Kiosk. My kind request to Higher Police Officials to check the CCTV Footage before One Week till the Incident happened, it might give them more clue about the assailant...

Brother, it looks so silly our police department while siting far in Qatar is it not? BTW such a horrible incident and the man just walk out so freely as if he has plucked a jack fruit or mango and walked away yet our police are in dismay and assumption..no wonder questions such as the one you have raised are going to them as free tuition!!

i agree with you, he seems expert in pick pocket & crime, so Police can find him if they check some similar past files, one most important thing which i never seen police doing, providing his photo on all major newspapers and internet sites, everyone should recognize him if he is seen, with only his video footage its hard to memorize him,

Soon after any blast in India our police force name the people responsible for the blast and start arresting the youths of a particular community. A simple case of assault, police cannot catch the culprits even after a week?
