Kasargod, Nov 27: Kerala chief minister Oommen Chandy is scheduled to lay foundation stone for an ambitious medical college at Kasargod on November 30. State minister of health V S Shivakumar will preside over the programme.

The well equipped medical college will be built at a cost of Rs 283 crore. An area of 65 acres is identified for the purpose.  A hospital of 300 beds will be constructed in the first stage of the project.

The construction will be undertaken with NABARD aid. Necessary roads are being built in the area for the purpose.  Borewells have been dug for the construction. Water from the neighboring lake will be taken later.  The medical college will consist of sixteen divisions including hospital, college, electricity substation etc.

The project has been undertaken by Kitco. Dr P G R Pillai has been appointed as special officer to supervise the college construction. It is worth mentioning that the medical college and hospital is coming up in an endosulfan-affected area.

Ensdosulfan victims so far were depending on Mangalore’s hospitals. A hospital in the area will be highly beneficial to them.

Considering strong protests by the opposition with regard to solar scam, tight police security will be provided at the venue. As many as 1500 policemen will be deployed. The police will provide special security at the main entrance.  Protesters will be stopped 50 meters away from the venue.  Special protection will be provided to the vehicle in which chief minister will be travelling.

Very good news for northern , hitherto neglected border area of God's own Country!! Hope this medical college will have an emphasis on community Medicine, Preventive care especially for Non - communicable and Lifestyle diseases .The new college should also seek special grants from ICMR and DST for research and rehab of Endosulphan and other harmful insecticides being indiscriminately used in this area as well as other parts of the country.

At this rate, all malayali students will opt to study in kerala only (and not in mangalore, manipal) because of the close proximity to their hometowns, same culture, and most importantly: the availability of BEEF for their daily food habits.

Very good news for an educationally backward neglected region of Kerala. It was long overdue but never materialised.
    Congrats Kasaragod!
Mr. CM, please give further more priority to this region and come up with another state of art Engineering and Management Colleges that is lacking this that region.
Hello Kasaragod, educate your children. Please remember, the pen is mightier than the sword. Nobody can take away the educational qualification from a person. Education will give you a bright future with better position in the society, life security and better living condition.
Come on youth, you are the GenNext, don't miss this opportunity, don't play around, aim high, work hard and reach your goal. Good luck!
