Bantwal, Dec 4: Bantwal police have seized four lorries illegally transporting sand from Netravati river to Bangalore.

The lorries were seized on Tuesday, December 3 at BC Road.

The police had conducted similar exercise on BC Road-Uppinangady national highway a few days ago and had seized more than fifteen lorries illegally transporting sand and fined them.

The sand transportation had stopped for sometime after the operation. The police team led by town SI Kabbalraj who were on inspection duty on Tuesday morning spotted four lorries and seized them.

It is suspected that attempts are on to transfer town sub inspector Kabbalraj who has become a thorn in the flesh of sand mafia.  It is said that unseen hands are at work to transfer the SI and some policemen who are at war with the illegal sand transporters.

I just wonder sometimes when People comment or ask what is there when sand is taken. The fact is they are taking illegal. They should take legal way.Other side when you dig the sand as you want what about local People where should they search?.when floods come and no sand is there to hold back whole land will be under water. We should protect nature, not completely go against it,as we are doing with forest.

what's wrong in Sand supply. How will the construction works go on. If these basic abundant supply has such a complication, I wonder where the nation heading? These stigma's are either political or corrupt practices.

This nonsense should be stopped & get the matter straight. Someone not getting their palms greased well, for sure.

I doubt if there is anything in writing as what's legal?

    Kiran,

Since so many years the sand is used for construction and other purposes in Mangalore. Still not an inch of Mangalore has disappeared. Whatever used is being replaced that is nature. May be given millions of years some the higher level areas, hills may flatten. I am assuming.

Is the checkpoint at Padil ?(in between Mangalore - BC road )

This is the consequence, if illegal means are practiced to evade excise duty /permit cost and make huge gains. Now pay the penalty and run after the court proceedings. The loss would be in many folds than the cash profit they would have made. The cheaters deserve such fate.

Dust of granite stone is said to be stronger than Sand and in European countries it is said to have become alternative to sand and cheaper than sand with better quality than Sand.
The Institute of Chartered Engineers of India has also certified the same for Indian conditions too.

Where this seized lorries will go? Will police unload them into the river again? Sand mafia is undisturbed especially in Nethravathi Banks and in Gurpur river too. They seized only few out many..
