Mangalore, Dec 9: In an incident that may have turned to tragedy if not for the presence of mind of neighbours, a two-year-old child locked her mother in the bathroom when no one else was at home.

The incident was took place at Matrix West Wing Apartments at Alake here on Monday December 9.

Malathi, the mother of the child went for a bath leaving her two-year-old daughter all to herself. The child while playing latched the bathroom door from the outside, locking her mother in.

Unable to make the child unlatch the door, Malathi then called out to her neighbours through the ventilator in the bathroom and shouted for help.

The neighbours rushed to her rescue, but found the main door locked from the inside. When they peeped from the window, the saw the child holding a pair of scissors in her hand.

Frightened that the child may harm herself, the neighbours called the fire service.

At the same time, some of the neighbours went to the house of the apartment owner at Urwa and brought spare keys of the flat.

By the time the fire service arrived, the neighbours got the spare keys and rescued the mother and the child.

A lock from out side can be fixed at a height of 1.5mtr from Grnd, so that it should not be approachable to 2yr old toddlers.

If u don't keep a latch from outside, the door will remain open when the bathroom is not in use. During this time, the stink & mosquitoes in the bathroom will spread to the whole house. Its so very easy to blame somebody right!

Bath room key should be in place from inside and not from outside.
Additionally, the door can have a latch from inside if needed.

Any ways, it is a lesson to learn.

How the Mother kept just 2 year old Toddler locked out and went
    to take bath?
Some time, people should learn from poor people on the streets,
how they do their work, and take care of their children also!

The child is only two years old! Was it necessary for the mother to lock the door of the bathroom when the main door of the apartment is locked?I think it was enough to just close the door of the bathroom by keeping a small gap,so that she can observe her own child from inside the bathroom!

It is a total flop design by the constructor/developer. Why should one have a lock from outside for the bathroom? Bathrooms should only have locks from inside and not from out.

Children are innocent.Do not leave your child unattended especially in a toddler age.Sometime such toddlers try to open the latch of windows and try to peep down special people who live on higher floors. At time kids' activities even adults are not able to do.Love ur kids and at the same timex take care of them

Humanity is the greatest gift, one can experience from others and also we can do the same to others. Always keeping good relationship with the neighbors helps a lot to all.

This is a wake up call to the mother. 2 yrs child had scissor in her hand. Children do the photocopy act of the parents.

Thank God, all happy ending. Well done, neighbors.
