Mangalore, Dec 23: ‘Dharmika Swathantriya Rakshana Committee’, a sub-division of Vishwa Hindu Parishad organized a rally from Dr Ambedkar circle culminating with a protest meet at Town Hall here on Monday December 23, against the state government’s proposed Anti-Superstitions Bill 2013.

Addressing the meeting, Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Gopalji said, “Dharma is the soul of Bharath, Hindus see god in each particle in cosmology, and therefore tree, cow, nature, and stone are worshipped. This is a basic belief of man. We taught about the importance of nature to the world, and today various thinkers agree that the Indian notion of protecting the nature is the best way to achieve world peace.

"The Constitution has provided an individual the right to practice any religion. The government cannot suppress this right. Can the government stop Muslims from performing prayers during office hours? Are Christians who take part in Benin music programmes not superstitious? The union government too is ready to pass Communal Violence Bill targeting Hindus," he said.

Sri Ramananda Swamiji of Kolya Math said, “A few people who are not aware of the culture of this land are supporting this Bill. We should protest against this Bill with the motto of do or die. India is the 'Jagadguru' (guru of the world) of culture. Hindutva is our culture. This is an attempt by the government to curtail the beliefs of Hindus."

Sri Gurudevananda Swamiji of Odiyoor Math said, “They (government) should make a list of superstitious and non-superstitious beliefs. It is through Dharma that we can achieve universal peace. Eastern civilization tells us about Sanatana Dharma. We should retain our identity."

Sri Rajashekarananda Swamiji said, “It is a hidden agenda to attack Hindu Dharma. This convention should be convey the message that if the Bill is passed the government will be in its grave. Hindus have also voted for the government, but not to evoke outrage or loot the state. The chief minister is acting according to the Bill prepared leftist extremists.

"Moreover, Siddaramaiah also performed ‘homa’ to become the chief minister, but now he is hatching a plan so that no one else can perform 'homa' and pull him down; hence he is trying to pass the Anti-Superstitions Bill-2013. This Bill is is a strategy to finish off Hindu society," he alleged.

Sri Mohandas Swamiji of Manila said, “This attack on Hinduism is not new, it was there pre-Independence and post-Independence. It is time to wake up. There are attacks on Hinduism and women, and also cow slaughter. The government is concerned only about minorities, even if it means hurting the beliefs of the majority. Religious beliefs can teach morality and good thoughts to individuals."

Mukthananda Swamiji of Karinje Math called upon the Hindus to protect their Dharma and repond to the attack on their belief system.

Satyajit Suratkal of Hindu Jagarana Vedike said, “India is a land which gave to the world the Vedas, the Upanishads, the Ramayana, and the Mahabharata to propogate peaceful living. When the Hindu Samaj was attacked, it retaliated against all odds at various instances.  Janardhana Poojary (former union minister) who once neglected Hinduism is now talking in favour of Hindutva as he has learnt a lesson. Even Siddaramaiah will face the same if criticizes Hindu beliefs."

On this occasion M B Puranik, Ramdas Asranna and others were present.

Kamalaksha Gandha Kadu, president of Dharmika Swathantriya Rakshana committee welcomed. Kateel Dinesh Pai delivered the keynote address.

By seeing the gathering in the auditorium one can understand hardly 15-20 people have objected to the anti superstition bill. It is better to introduce this bill rather than sacrificing infants and aged people. If any of the gathered people wants to believe in superstition, let them first sacrifice their own family members instead of stealing others infants and sacrificing. Jai Hind.

Anti-superstition Bill will be passed, despite outrage from Religious Zealots. This bill is not against worshiping or performing Pujas or belief of an individual. This bill is against the propaganda and forced promotion of Superstition and delusion into the minds of illiterate and uneducated masses, and this applies to Christianity and Islam as well.

    Balanna, Dubai.

    Well said.

There is a vast difference between believing in superstitions and believing in one’s religion. Religion is faith in God and superstition is blind belief which may bring more harm than good things in life.

Superstition is the largest industry in India. It is not given industry status, otherwise the superstition shops would have been mushrooming in each roadside after taking the loan.

I am giving only one example. Our mothers even after making so many fasts and prayers for the long life of their husbands and not due to their mistake, become widows as planned by God. From the day her husband dies till her body is taken for burial or cremation on her death, she has to go through so many deprivations, humiliations and indignities. There are so many other superstitions surrounding us. Maharashtra Govt has passed this bill.

Learned and rational Swamiji, you want your mother, who is just next to God on earth, to go through this ?

One should read the draft bill & then deliberate on it. Once that is done we will be able to know which are the crude practices which are meant to be eradicated. If the Bill contains anything that intrudes into personal religious practices of an Individual, then that may be shelved but those practices in the guise of religious beliefs, Hurts physically & mentally little children, Animals, dignity of women, the creation of fear among people so that they part with their hard earned money on some manthrawaadis & thanthrawaadis etc shold be done away with. we should build scientific temper among children in our schools. The greatness of Hindu religion is it evolves. we were able to do away with crude practices like sati system etc unlike some religion which strictly go by the book and sometimes somehow hurts fellow human beings.

Which are the beliefs come under superstitious and what are logical and rational believes? Who is authorized to decree and categorized those things?
Someone who strives to do that which is right in the way he thinks, who is sincere and avoids self-deception, someone who seeks the truth, avoids biases and prejudice in his opinions, who seeks knowledge from all available sources, someone who reflects on what he sees and always looks for explanations and doesn't accept that things are as they are simply without any reason, someone who tries to avoid any contradictions in his understandings, such a person is rational and Such a person is one who seeks to think, learn and decide in a morally good way.

Oh God! Show us your straight path.
