Mangalore, Dec 24: Karnataka Zakat and Charitable Trust (KZCT) on Tuesday December 24 distributed scholarships to meritorious and deserving students of PUC or equivalent who want to pursue their degree courses in any stream of their choice. The programme was held at Loyola Hall, St Aloysius College.

Students who secured 90% and above, orphans who scored 60% and above, and physically challenged students who scored 35% and above in PUC received scholarships.

IAF air commodore and director of Hyderabad Institute of Excellence Naseem Akhtar was the chief guest. Addressing the youngsters, he said, "It is a privilege for all the kids here who are getting scholarships. I hear a lot about discrimination against Muslims. It is not true."

"The youths of our country are the future leaders, builders, engineers, doctors and much more. All the youngsters gathered here must showcase your talents.

"Nobody can prepare the future of the youth, but everyone can prepare the youth for the future. They just need our guidance. Youths who are here are indeed are the future of our nation," he said.

"Service to society and hence to the nation is a rent to be paid for the space we occupy. One person alone can conquer the whole world. Let us all remember those men who made today possible for everyone. Our Indian army has done a lot for us. Our soldiers have sacrificed their lives to protect our country as well as the people of this country," said Naseem Akhtar.

Khalil Ahmed, chairman, Karnataka Zakat and Charitable Trust (KZCT) said, "This is the 4th year we are organising this programme. Last year we had given scholarships to almost 7,000 students."

Addressing the youngsters, he advised, "Boys gathered should not ask for dowry when you get married. Poor people cannot give dowry. Morality comes from the teachings of elderly persons," he added.

Ziauddin Nayyar, vice-president of Iqbal Academy, former minister B A Moideen and other guests were present.
