Kasargod, Dec 25: Kasargod is often in the news for crimes like theft, smuggling and other unlawful activities. But the railway staff here have set an example of sincerity by going the extra mile in helping a lady find her lost bag that contained valuables.

A lady passenger left her bag in the train by mistake while getting down at the station. The bag was later restored to her with the valuables intact.

The incident has occurred at 3.45 am on Monday, December 23 when Vatsamma (55), a resident of Thiruvananthapuram resident  was arriving at Kasargod by train.  She was coming back by Marusagar Express train after participating in a wedding programme at Ernakulam and was travelling in berth No 57 in B4 compartment.

When she got down at Kasargod, she forgot to take her bag with her. By the time she realized it, the train had already left Kasargod station.  She immediately informed the staff at Kasargod railway station, who in turn informed K Chitraraj, the security staff on duty. He passed on the information to Thiruvananthapuram railway security control room, from where a call was made to railway staff Sudhakar.  As he was on leave, the message was sent to another staff Sarish P Shanker who was aboard the train. Shanker who went to the compartment found the bag lying there. Twenty minutes had elapsed by then and another passenger had occupied the seat.

As there were gold ornaments, documents and other valuables in the bag, the staff did not hand over the bag to anyone else to pass it on, and instead got down at Kankanady junction, took the Netravati Express train back to Kasargod and handed it over to the passenger personally at Kasargod in the presence of station master Srinivas and RPF official Chitraraj.

The credit needs to go to the Kasaragod Railway station staff who took quick action & to the attendant on the Marusagar Express who had the presence of mind to hand over the bag ASAP to the lady! Commendable indeed!! But now thanks to mobile phones communicating with train staff & KSRTC etc very easy

The credit goes to all who coordinated in a professional manner and made sure that the lost baggage is found and given to the owner. This shows that we do have honest people around and they should be applauded and recognized by their superiors for the immediate action taken and they should be given some kind of incentives to motivate the others who could join the same and make India a safe country.

Good work. She was lucky to find her bag. Any beggars or who roam compartments would have taken away. Always be ready before 15 minutes with your belongings when you get down. Our memory must be sharp but as the age increases difficult to remember. Hope the guy and who are involved in finding the bag in time must be awarded.
