Kundapur, Jan 8: Kollur Shree Mookambika Temple authorities on Tuesday January 7 suspended a worker for allegedly stealing  ten silver nuggets worth several lacs offered by a devotee to the deity.

A large number of devotees from India and abroad had flocked to the temple during the beginning of the year.  It is said that the accused worker, identified as Narayana Puranik, plotted to hoodwink an influential businessman from Tamil Nadu and suggested him to do ‘Tula Bhara’.

The devotee came forward to offer silver nuggest and sugar. It is said that Narayana kept the silver nuggets on top of the sugar bundle in a plate and covered them with flowers.  The silver nuggets which fell down while weighing in the scale were allegedly  pocketed by Narayana. There was nobody other than the donor and him in the room. Narayana who has sent the devotee back after the weighing process took the sugar bundles to the repository and the silver nuggets to his house, source said.  Unfortunately for him, a staff at the temple noticed his act.

Though Narayana did not come to work on January 2, the information of his misdeed had reached the concerned.

Krishnaprasad Adyanthaya, president of management committee and L S Maruti, executive official, saw the images captured by the CCTV which confirmed the incident. They questioned Narayana, who then returned the ten silver nuggets to the temple. He was suspended by the temple authorities.

As per customs, devotees can offer valuables in ‘Tula Bhara’ through the priest or directly to the temple. If the offerings are made directly, all the items offered go the repository.  If they are offered through the priest, half of the offerings go to the priest and remaining half to the temple. Narayana was not authorized to ask the devotees for ‘Tula Bhara’, but he allegedly changed the procedure to suit his purpose.

It is learnt that the temple will form a committee to further investigate the incident by March 30 and arrive at a decision.

This incident could be just the tip of a huge iceberg. It is high time all religious place donations be made totally transparent and accounts be open to the general public to avoid misappropriation of huge amounts of money coming from the devout and gullible!!

It is not possible to wood wink God's house always. Narayan's brain work finally failed.

The Temple authorities would have helped him financially, if requested. One bad move and the bad result.

This Poor man, he has no political God-father just like the thieves at other Temples have. Shanadi Ajitkumar Hegde - the former Administrator of a big Durga Parameshwari temple in Mangalore Taluk was abruptly removed from that post and transferred out of dist when he caught two workers stealing temple valuables in connivance with the main priest itself.

In some temples 50% of the revenue from each SEVA is going as a commission for the Priests apart from the salary. How long moneys are there monkey players will be there. There should be a mechanized system of Pooja and offerings. In India religious place & Hospitals have become the major loot companies.

Jai Jai Narayana Narayana Hari Hari
    Teri Leela Sabse Nyaari Nyaari
    Hari Hari....
    1. God , Goddesses are for those who come from far off places with devotion.
    2. For workers, administrators, trustees etc... Gods and Goddesses
in such sacred places owe their existence there due to them! First they -then the Gods!
    3. God is at their command and shall respond accordingly. He is at best their 'neighbor'.
    4. Others, devotees , etc. may be afraid of Him , but they are not. They look after 'God' you see!
    5. So because of point no4...if you have any offerings to be made to God...his caretakers too would like to have their 'share' ,whether you like it or not.
    6. And the most important...You come to find peace in such temples, sacred places
of fame, name and mythological importance. However in day to day affairs of such temples, sacred places there is hardly any peace-One Trustee does not like the face of another, there is groupism in every other administrative quarter, elections at the of a hat, favouritsm in giving contracts, misappropriation of funds, Priests
    lobby etc!...And to cap it
all-they go to some other holy place with their problem!!
You say Oh My God!...but this is the 'Truth'.....
No wonder today if even the LORD ponders!
    Jai Sri Narayan.....
    Praise Be to the Lord...
    Allah Maalik....
    Sat Sri Akaal......
    Now you search for HIM!

This is the normal story all across places including churches and mosques.

The other way to siphon money is to build new buildings and giving away the money collected by Devotees to contractors of their choice. This has been done for years now.
