Danish gang-rape: Third accused sent to police custody

New Delhi, Jan 17 (IANS): A Delhi court Friday sent a third person arrested for the gang rape and robbery of a 51-year-old Danish tourist to police custody till Jan 20.

Raju alias Bajji was arrested Thursday afternoon near the Nizamuddin railway station in south Delhi by the Railway Police Force, police said.

Police told Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sudhanshu Kaushik that his interrogation would help them trace the other accused.

The magistrate allowed police to quiz him till Jan 20.

The police said Raju is a scavenger who collects discarded water bottles at the railway station.

He was among eight people who allegedly raped the Danish tourist Tuesday at knife-point near the New Delhi railway station after she sought directions to her hotel in Paharganj, a tourist hub.

Two men arrested earlier - Mohd Raja, 22, from Uttar Pradesh, and Mahendra alias Ganja, 25, from Maharashtra - are also in police custody till Jan 20.

Police have formed six teams to trace the remaining five accused.
