Mangalore: Two from West Bengal nabbed for circulating counterfeit currency

Mangalore, Jan 20: “Suratkal police arrested two people on the night of Sunday January 19 for their involvement in circulating counterfeit currency. The accused were identified as Sushanth Mandel (20) and Sharath Mandel (19) from Malda district of West Bengal,” said R Hithendra, police commissioner.

He was addressing the press at his office on Monday January 20.

“The duo came from West Bengal on Friday January 17 and took a house on rent at Katipalla, 1st Cross Road, Suratkal, from where they ran their counterfeit currency racket. They obtained this counterfeit currency from a person identified as Saleem in West Bengal. During the raid, the police found 81 counterfeit notes of Rs 1,000 denomination and 23 counterfeit notes of Rs 500 denomination, altogether amounting of Rs 92,500.

"Police also seized Rs 40,420 in denominations of Rs 500, Rs 100, Rs 50, Rs 20, and Rs 10, all of which were genuine. It is suspected that they used to purchase things costing between Rs 100 and Rs 150 to circulate the fake notes," he added.

Police have filed a case under 489(B) and (C) of IPC against the accused.

According to sources, they came from West Bengal to circulate the counterfeit currency, and were carrying out this task on a commission basis. After circulating the fake notes they had planned to leave for West Bengal.    

Under the direction of Panamboor ACP, Suratkal inspector M A Nataraj, staff like Vijayraj, B K Krishna, Santhosh, Girish Suvarna, Girish Jogi, Punith Raja, and Rafiulla participated in this raid.

    They are only circulaters.catch the big fish where it is printed .and These Boys also are printing them.May be in house or elsewhere printing press existing?find out.not that big Boss runs away.

    The money printed by the CB is not having a value in it. It is just a paper with some number and signature and we are the people who think that it has value. The real money of India is gold and silver. Plz bring back the real money into the market and remove the ever depreciating paper currencies.
