Mangalore Airport has become a smuggling hub mainly from Kerala passengers.Glad to know that customs department has seized gold worth Rs.24.81 lac in two separate cases.Since the smuggling in this airport is higher, the customs need to be more vigilant to seize this illegal gold. All the best.Thanq.

All these cases will not even registered in the customs files. All the passengers have the right to release the gold by paying the customs duty and there is no problem.

Our corrupt and hungry Govt is the main culprit who made the people to opt for all these smuggling tricks.

If the Govt would have charged a decent amount of customs duty definitely people will not smuggle as the duty becomes cheaper than the cost of smuggling.

But our Govt will not change for sure and in the same way smuggling will not stop as well. People will find many more ways to continue smuggling as long as the import duty is not reduced.

How many times are WE told to read the fine print before WE sign a contract, while growing up? Sometimes you have to explain things to some people especially from Kasargod in simple terms like “what is legal and illegal often has nothing to do with what is right or wrong. They should have figured out a better way to smuggle and/or transport their gold.

    Mr. Bryan,
Please do not generalize people from Kasaragod. If you just have a glance on all articles in Daijiworld regarding Gold smuggling you will stumble upon a striking similarity of all culprits more than that they belong to Kasaragod.
The common factor applies to all those gold smugglers irrespective of their locations like bhatkal, Uduapi and Kasaragod.

    Good job.
But where does this Gold/money confiscated go to?
    All these years :
Smuggling in Kasargoad- Bhatkal-Ratnagiri was rampant.
No one was getting caught-This is not nuclear science but open secret?
AT the airports: customs-revenue inspectors- vigilance officers-tax officers are all hand in glove and why should they catch the CHICKEN LAYING THE GOLDEN EGGS?
Take a share little by little from top to bottom.
Imagine since independence this is the story of India.
Where is the money going-into the pockets .
95% of the officers share this money.
AI-INDIA is being a govt carrier -most of the crew involves & smuggling.
These are the facts and it is so demotivating for the Honest officers who detest these acts?
    Where is the justice?
Even till date smuggling goes on.. as we speak..
No wonder India has equal amount of parallel black money floating.
    How can you control inflation?
    This is a joke.
1/ change all notes to plastic.
2/ Gold : hidden in holy places/temples/Gods Pooja rooms/ : has to come back to the main stream of economy for growth.
: don't ask, don't tell, but this money has to come back to Economy-the exchequer so you develop and build the nation.
Every property sold they ask for 30% to 50% black money.
    How is the nation running?
    How?
    Who checks -who cares?
Time to open up..time for introspection ..Time for accountability.. Time for clean growth.
    Not artificial..illegal..!

As usual, only the common man/small fish are caught.
The CONmen/big fish ministers are never caught by customs officials because they don't have the guts to do so.
Have you ever heard of ministers or powerful people being caught at airports.
Recently ministers from UP went on a foreign tour.Just look at the places they went - Europe(for diamonds) and Dubai for gold.
Customs people never dare catch them. They won't be alive next day if they do!

My advice to the custom officers..not to publicize such events. Let the smugglers bring the gold as much as possible. All these captured gold will help to improve the economy.
