Tusker tour on Tumkur streets creates anxiety among locals

Daijiworld Media Network – Tumkur (EP)

Tumkur, Feb 3: Three male elephants marching on the streets of Tumkur city were the centre of all attention on Sunday February 2.

The elephants had strayed from a herd of nine that had camped around the lakes in the district. The sight of the elephants on the streets created anxiety among locals.

Police and forest personnel had to struggle hard to send them to safer places. It is said that herds of elephants have been straying into Tumkur district during the last three months.

Out of the nine elephants that came to the district on Saturday, February 1, six remained at Gangasandra lake and three had gone to Gooluru lakes.  The elephants from Gooluru lake had gone looking for food to Rotighar through Hanumantaraya’s farm.

The tuskers moved towards Vijayanagara by crossing the railway tracks and came to the main road by breaking the SIT College’s playground wall.

Police came to the spot and warned the locals against playing loudspeakers and riding two wheelers as the elephants may cause harm.

The elephants were driven away after much effort.

The only way out of this big challenge created by our own self is to create ample of food bank in the what ever forest is left behind. I was in Bali last year and I was very surpised to see a small Islan have crated a little forest for Monkeys. They call it as Monkey forest and made it a tourist attraction. This forest have ample of food and they are visitors so that, enough food is sourced and monkeys are well fed so that they prevent from starying out.

If people encroach animal area then this is bound to happen, soon India will have animals only in books and not in jungles as all the jungles will be occupied by the real junglees.

Wild animals which are supposed to be in the forests are attacking the villages and city area which is really a dangerous development. The forest department has to initiate a study to find out the causes for migration of these wild animals to the villages in groups and need to find out measures to resrict this development.Thanq.

Perhaps Jungle animals are also fed up with Siddu's type of regime. May be they have felt the presence of jungleraj. So in the recent past, frequently wild animals as Tiger, Lepoard, Elephants, have been appearing in public places.
