Mumbai: Nama Javaner host cricket tournament

Mumbai, Feb  5: The youth association of Tulu Kannadigas, ‘Nama Javaner’ in Meera Bhayandar recently held cricket tournament in Bala Saheb Thakre grounds near Indraloka at Bayandar east.

The tournament was inaugurated by Sanooru Santhinja Janardhan Bhat, chief priest of Sri Mahalingeshwara temple at Mira Road.  Arun Rai, director of St Agnes school of Bhayandar had arrived as chief guest.

Sixteen teams from the city and the suburbs participated in the limited over tournament.  Sadel up team won the first prize and Sai Sannidhi team won the second prize.

Sadel up team was handed over Rs 33,333 with the winners trophy and Sayi Sannidhi team was awarded Rs 22,222 and a runner up trophy.  Shailesh Kanchan of Sadel up team was declared the man of the match and man of the series, Nasir Udupi was declared the best batsman and Arif Mukka was declared the best bowler.  Local MLA Pratap Sarnaik present as chief guest, gave away the prizes.

Sarnaik spoke praising the activities of Nama Javaner and said that he is proud to participate in the programme of Nama Javaner as he was present for Tulunad’s prestigious Billava society programmes. The programme has preserved local flavor and language and inspired unity and the spirit of sportsmanship among the youth, he said and wished that the youth may get identified in national cricket team.

The guest of honor, honorary president of Meera Dahanu Bunts Virar Shetty said that the contribution of Marati soil can be found in the growth of Tulu Kannadigas.  The customs and tradition of Karnataka and Maharashtra are the same.  Marati community supports the programmes of Tulu Kannadigas and this cricket tournament.  Winning and losing is not important in a tournament.  Competition strengthens confidence.  There is a spirit of sportsmanship among Tuluvas and sports programmes such as these help the participants to continue it, he said.

Suresh Shetty Gandharva of Meera Dahanu Bunts, Shanker Virkar, leader of Meera Bhayandar Shivasena, Nilesh Soni, leader of Meera Bhayandar, Hoteliers Kilpadi Bandasale Ravi Shetty Virar, Sampat Shetty Karnire Dahisar, Suresh Shetty Dahisar and Sampat Shetty Panjada Guthu were present.

Arun Shetty Paniyooru, Raviraj Shetty, Dinesh Shetty Kaup, Rakshit Shetty, Sudheer Shetty, Balachandra Rai, Santhosh Suvarna, Nishu Bhandari, Dayananda Shetty and Ravindra Shetty helped in the programme.

Balachandra Rai compered the programme.  G K Kenchanakere and Shimantooru Praveen Shetty conducted the tournament.  Nama Javaner president Chetana Shetty Moodbidri proposed vote of thanks.

Ravi Kumar Mangalore presented live commentary of the match and Mayur, Prakash Shetty, Dinesh Shetty Kaup cooperated by being the referees.
