Udupi, Feb 5: In a daylight robbery reported at Muloor in Kaup here on Wednesday February 5, two persons entered a house on the pretext of seeking 'donations' and made away with cash and gold after knocking out a woman with chloroform.

It is said that two persons came to a house at Muloor when the owner was away and rang the door bell. When the woman, identified as Sofia, a relative of the owner, opened the door, they told her that they had come to seek donations for the construction of a madrasa.

Sofia, believing their story to be true, went inside to fetch some money. Meanwhile, the two men entered the house, caught hold of Sophia and placed a cloth dipped in chorloform over her face. Sophia immediately lost consciousness.

The robbers then looted the house and escaped with four sovereigns of gold, Rs 6,000 in cash and a chain that Sofia was wearing.

The house belongs to Faizal Ibrahim, who stays in Dubai. At the time of the incident, his wife and children had been to visit Faizal's father who stays in the neighbourhood. Sofia, a relative, was alone at home.

The incident came to light when Faizal's wife returned home and saw Sofia lying unconscious on floor.

Sources said that after committing the robbery, the two men took a bus towards and alighted somewhere between Kaup and Katapady.

A case has been registered in Kaup police station.

Planned robbery. The thieves knew there is only one person in the home at that point of time. So someone known to Sofia or house owner is indirectly involved in the incident.

DR Kusuma, How gullible can you be. Did it not dawn on you to first check the validity of the charity , First thing to do would be whether it is a registered Charity. Next would be to stay away from religious charities. Then & only then you would find solace & peace in charitable giving. Here in U.S.A people stay away from charities that have religious affiliations,I hope better sense prevails the next time around, Regards

Most of the people who come for collecting donations for Masjid or for religious related charity, they would appear in a sober and pious look. Beware of these people.

If you recall, during the last Ramadan month a gang of seven Muslim youngsters approached Salam Haji, a businessman near Kanhangad at his home around 10 pm for collecting donation. They killed Salam Haji, the house owner and looted the house. Thankfully, all are now caught and in jail.

These people are fraud and do not really care about the life after death.

Hope the Kaup robbers are caught soon and punished.

Ahmedbhai, this technique does not work all the time, it is practical only after nightfall and in flat system, not in independent houses!!

The burglars could come in any guise like a lineman, the telephone man, gas repair man, newspaperman, and so many other men!!

Just two days ago 'real' gas supply boys raped and robbed a young housewife somewhere in Mumbai per news reports as they thought the target victim was very new to Mumbai!!!
