Mangalore, Feb 11: In a unique and laudable initiative, the students of St Aloysius Institute of Management and Information Technology (AIMIT), Beeri on Tuesday February 11 conducted a motor rally to create awareness among the youth on the importance of voting.

The motorcade, held as part of the Insignia-14 fest, started at Pumpwell and passed through Nantoor, KPT, Bejai, MG Road, PVS, Bunts Hostel, Balmatta, and culminated at St Aloysius College campus in Light House hill.

The two-hour procession was flagged off by chairman of AIMIT Fr (Dr) Oswald Mascarenhas, and Nithin Raj and Sathya Shankar of Ouola.com, the title sponsor of Insignia-14, were present.

The students and faculty with open arms welcomed students from various colleges as the awareness programme went on its way educating the youth on the importance of voting. The rally culminated at St Aloysius College main campus, where Fr Oswald Mascarenhas addressed the gathering emphasizing the importance of voting.

Rector of St Aloysius Fr Denzil Lobo spoke on the occasion exhorting the youth to be duty bound and exercise their franchise. Management Club secretary spoke on behalf of the students on the purpose of holding the rally and also explained Insignia-14 to the gathering.

Babitha of second-year MBA compered and delivered the vote of thanks

The students of AIMIT implemented the idea and took the initiative to organize the motorcade from the motivational business ethics and corporate governance (BECG) course. This course stressed on ethics consisting of moral values and principles that need to be followed in today’s society. The country today needs leaders who are ethical and share values of fairness, mutual well-being, and harmony. They must be able to have a service-oriented leadership wherein a their duty is to serve first, followed by making conscious choices that bring about a positive change.

This awareness programme will be carried out for the next few days and will mark the grand finale of Insignia 2014-powered by Ouola.com on February 24 and 25. Insignia is the annual national-level business fest of the College and this year’s theme is 'A Systems Thinking Approach: The Supreme Way of Design Thinking'.

Criticisms are meant to be a part and parcel of each & every act, may it be good or bad.One learns to improve in life based on the criticisms they face. But this doesn't mean that people say anything and everything and we simply keep quiet and listen to it. NO! We (AIMITians), as a youth, have taken a step to create awareness and done our small part to take the initiative to lead India, targeting the youth and all the fellow Indians to provoke them into the feeling of oneness and act as a matured and sensible Indian to do their bit for the country such that they cast their precious vote and choose the best from the rest in the forthcoming elections. This was simply the motive behind the rally conducted. "Your vote, your might".
Thanks to the people who have criticized and motivated with your comments here, probably this could be one of the best ways to actually provoke the present youth to go and actively take part in the coming elections. PEACE!

Mr.Eric.. Delightedly happy of your criticisms against this rally,at least it's building our challenge to come up and show that we youth can do things to reach great heights and get this awareness all the more into people's mind in various ways and we are going to show the change being the youth. So,Thank you for it.
Mr.Navin Shetty and Mr.Lingappa ..To you'll I can say, Show off is common and yeah, you'll must have also done the same in college, but unlike us who has come up with an in depth root cause being the youth which for sure you'll must have never even thought of in your college days.
Mr.Joe.. Studies is a part of our education system.. If it was only studies that taught everything,By now every youth in India should have been knowing their responsibility and right to vote, which has not happened and is not happening and thus along with concentrating on our studies we have taken this step.
To all of you out there who find this rally a bare enjoyment and nothing much educative, It's always better to encourage and motivate youth when they have taken a step to create a change for a good cause rather than just say "Youth are the future" and keep criticizing and complaining that youth just do nothing in India.
If one cannot motivate and encourage the other,at least do not demotivate.
Every citizen wants India to be a developed nation ,but how would it be if one keeps pulling down the leg of the other doing good.
"If you cannot take a step to develop the country,do not take a step to stop another from doing good to develop the country."

When riders have rallies with no motive, nobody says anything. Our youth of Mangalore, are creating awareness on politics. There is nothing wrong about it. You'll have taken notice, because it was initiated in a grand manner. if these students had used any other approach, we wouldn't have been aware at all. Thank you Aloysians, you'll have done a great Job.

It's very heartening to see people debating and discussing about this issue, that's exactly what we wanted, the youth to take note and take part in building our great nation, We need to understand that we cannot afford to be penny wise and pound foolish, we need to focus on the larger issue and work for the larger good.Every Initiative will be met with Laurels and Criticisms, but We will neither get Complacent nor be Bogged down, The future India is the youth

Mr Eric it is easy to say that we can go house to house and create awareness
let me ask you...what have you done in this world to make a change, at least a small change?
We tried to do something, we tried to create awareness among our youngsters on what our governments are doing, pillaging and stealing what belongs to the people.
we tried and we will always try. your negativity to this issue, unfortunately represents ignorance - a virtue that, again, unfortunately, is being followed by our youngsters. we want to eliminate this ignorance and open everybody's eyes. this is how we did it. We will continue to find ways to create such awareness and change our world.

I appreciate the cause, but the wrong methodology chosen.
Dear Friends, Please plan street play This is a very powerful methodology.
I have seen effective street play organised sometimes back by Modankap / BC road youth towards HIV which was really brought a lots of change.

It is indeed a great initiative on the part of the management of St. Aloysius to hold an awareness rally to educate people in Mangalore to exercise their franchise.

Mangalore is one of the educational centers, but there are a few who do not know or understand the importance of voting. The program therefore is aimed at educating such people. Hope the program ends well and many will register themselves to vote.

It would be a good idea on the part of St. Aloysius to help people to get voters' Id's.

Mr. Eric, Lets take into example a save tiger campaign or Go green. Would it be feasible, if they walked into every house and communicated on the same. Everything is a system, and has a INPUT PROCESS AND OUTPUT. Motor cavalcade was just an input, the process and output are yet to follow.

Awareness comes when you register for Voter ID card. Holding such rallies is like having "Save Greenery", "Save Oil", "Run Be Healthy" and such campaigns. I don't believe in such campaigns as they are forgotten next day. Instead, go to every house and physically check that they have registered for Voters ID Card. Stop this nonsense campaign, which is for a hour or for a day and then forgotten. We need to go into the root to achieve anything.
