Karkala, Feb 22: Several members of the public, as well as the parents of Malini, wife of Ashok Jain from Malligemane in Shirlalu village in the taluk, have accused Malini’s husband  and in-laws of having a hand in her death under suspicious circumstances. They have urged the police to take strict action against the concerned.

Expressing impatience at pace of investigation, they charged the police of showing apathy in the matter of collecting details about those involved with this crime.

A large number of locals rushed to the police station on Friday as soon as the news about the visit of some reporters from a private news channel there for collecting details of the case spread. The people expressed their anger at the failure of the police in taking action against Jain even after a case about his hand in the death of his first wife, Ashalata, was filed.

The police said that they have already registered dowry harassment and abetment to suicide cases against Ashok, and that they will be collecting evidences in this case soon. They added that based on the finding in the post mortem report, they will decide about further course of action. The parents of Malini and the locals also urged the police to investigate about the rumour relating to the possible involvement of two other women, said to be friends of Malini, in this case.

It is said that Malini had informed some relatives over phone a couple of days before her death that she was being subjected to lot of harassment by her husband. The locals said the action of Jain in stopping the trips of his bus four days before Malini’s death, has given rise to strong doubts in their minds. They said that Ashok Jain had given some details about Jyoti Hegde to the media, and that the police personnel, if they take interest and conduct proper investigation, can get to the root of the case.

Assistant superintendent of police, Annamalai, met the relatives and well wishers of the deceased and pacified them. He also promised to take action against those found guilty.

On the basis of a complaint made by Malini's mother, Ashok Jain, his father, Yuvaraj Hegde, and mother, Indira Jain, were arrested by the police of Ajekar. On being produced in the court, they were remanded to judicial custody till March 4.

Parents should take much care of their children, especially during teenage rather than worrying after things gone out of control.

Domestic violence act are there for genuine cases , police cannot arrest someone calling it ' mysterious' death. Media or mob justice should be avoided and strong evidence needed for any arrest. Its violation of human rights if police uses force on husband and in laws to please certain group. I hope the above peaple also protest during vice versa kind of cases.
