    Vincy,
If you dont have culture. You are socialy dead. You dont have identity. We people from mangalore went globally generated lot of wealth. If we dont concentrate on these things this will be lost for next generation. along with our tradation also lost. Kambala, Naga pooje, Butha kola, yakshagana are our tradation. Not only that Muslim Ooroos and cathlic feastivals are unique to this land. Hence small money spent on them are required to keep our social body alive.without that you will have physical body and inteligent body but no social body.

A very entertaining traditional way of sporting. Its’ goes all well till they reach last eight stage but after that point strokes given to these animals which is unbearable to person like me. No doubt they take care of these animals with high level of spirits. But the pain they suffer during the last three rounds …... Ohhhh I can’t see any more!!!!!

All enjoy this to a certain extent and it will indeed go well with culture if they are raced by real farmers during harvest.
What we see here is a totally different money game, and we should be realistic in an era of IT and developments.
Why not feed the young youth and make them win Olympic and Asian Games with the same money.
The truth is bitter, when we talk about history and realistic work and contributions then you talk about Spaniards, but you often forget that the Spaniards made you able to pen your opinions without fear.

The crores spent on these so called cultural sports can be used for other social causes such as shaadi bagya for so many girls from different community in our district who are not married because they cannot afford it.
The white lungi clad men with thick gold chain bracelets look great, but what is the benefit for the society?.
The people spend so many unaccounted crores on Koridha Katta and Kambala, but nobody interested in making a English school and hospital for the poor people.
If a particular takes initiative in such charity, then we call it tricks for conversions.
Except animal cruelty I do not see any entertainment in these Kambala compared to the Kambala in Thailand, where they do not hit the Buffallos but they race with them gracefully and the same animals are used in the farms. They treat them with care without beating them.

Well this is called tradition and the animals are well cared before and after the race, It is a benefit to society just like any other cultural or competitive event.

Animal Lover- I guess the history of humans should be read before you talk about animal cruelty in Mangalore, Italy or South America.

Think of all the treatment the natives were given by Spaniards in the name of religion and treatment people get in some tribal middle eastern and African nations or burning people travelling in a train?- We forget history and talk about a something you think is cool! I consider a dog tied to a leash as cruel or an animal in the zoo as cruel ... but humans have done this for years. Thank your lucky stars we live in a tolerant country were you can voice your opinion without fear

I have a close relationship with this golden olden tradition which is still alive in our beautiful South Canara district. My own elder brother Mr. Cyprian Moras is a a non missing participant of this tradition from the past 40 years of his life and he achieved a lifetime award for the organizers in the last Bajegoli kambala held. Happy for him and I am proud too.

On the contrary, can one imagine how many beatings these poor buffaloes get from the beginning till the end of the yard they run ? I truly pity on these animals. No words to speak.

I had the chance to visit a "Kambala" held at "Yedtadi" near my father's ancestral village of Barkur.I am a fan of "Horse-racing" in Mumbai and was surprised at the organizational skills of the small village community in organizing this exciting sport.Sadly, its tourism potential has not been tapped as this sport is unique in the World to the "Paddy Field" cultivation of South India.I am commenting after having toured 45 country's to date, my latest tour a few months back was to Vietnam and Cambodia, where the village topography is identical to the villages in the Southern Kanara district of Mangalore.

Excellent news and good photographs ! Encourage rural sports and our olden games. Make it a tourist attraction just like other countries where they innovate their local traditions to suit the visitors promote their region.
This will help the local economy and the tourism industry will flourish. Let this activity spread everywhere in our coastal regions. Good luck and congrats to the organizers.
Show all these activities in the tourism leaflets and make our districts prosper.
