Mangalore, Mar 5:
'Medha-14', a two-day national-level technical fest, organized by the students of ‘Sparkle’, an association of MCA of Shree Devi Institute of Technology (SDIT), was held on Tuesday March 4 at Shree Devi Institute of Technology, airport road, Kenjar.

The inaugural ceremony began with a prayer song and Dr Dilip Kumar K, principal of SDIT, welcomed the guests.

Nethravathi P S, convener, introduced all the dignitaries to the gathering and a floral welcome was given to the guests.

Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP, Dakshina Kannada, inaugurated the ceremony by lighting the lamp along with the other guests and in his inaugural speech, said, "Students are the future of all kinds of technology in India. This college is imparting adequate and quality education for students. Our country has given so much to the world such as scientists, doctors, engineers, and many more. These are the students who can bring changes in the world's system.”

Anand K, associate vice-president of Udayavani, released the departmental newsletter 'Spoorthi'. After releasing the newsletter, Anand K said in his speech that the fest will help the students obtain varied information for their knowledge.

"This fest gives every student the hope to go for any kind of job interview or for any task to be performed with confidence. Everyone knows that technology is growing rapidly. Television was invented when I was in 8th grade. When one family bought a TV in their house, all the villagers would peep through the window to see what it was. And today, every house has got one or two TVs, telephones, latest mobiles, apps, and androids. There was a time when mobiles were not invented and that time there was a device called 'pager', a wireless telecommunication device. A person who had a pager device was called a rich person. Later, the mobile phones came into existence and the pager was abandoned,” he said.

"Students grasp all sorts of knowledge very soon whereas us adults it takes time to cope up with technologies. The children of the current generation are already adjusted to this technology filled world. With all these things in mind, students should never set aside education. To  achieve something in life you have to know and you have to study that particular subject you are interested in. You have to compete with others and should achieve apt goals in your life,” added Anand.

Praveen Kumar Kalbhavi, MD and CEO of Novigo Solutions, Mangalore, in his keynote address, advised all the students to take technology in the right way.

He said, "There was a time when Infosys used to hire more than 50,000 employees. But due to the fall in the growth of the market sector, the company is hiring only 20,000 employees each year. The growth in the market sector has come down to 12-15 percent. Very soon the market will start making progress up to 18 to 20 percent and there will be increase in job opportunities for everyone."

A Sadananda Shetty, chairman of SDIT, conveyed his regards to everyone and requested all the competitors to actively participate in the events.

As the ceremony was coming to an end, mementos were given to the guests as a token of remembrance.

Kingston Olivera and Gayathri compered the inaugural ceremony while Prof Poornima Tantri proposed the vote of thanks.

There were more than 360 participants from 35 colleges participating in the fest.

Nidhish S Shetty, vice chairman of SDIT, Maina S Shetty, secretary of SDIT, Priyanka N Shetty, trustee of SDIT, were present during the ceremony.
