Kasargod: Girl imitates suicide scene on television, dies

Daijiworld Media Network – Kasargod (SP)

Kasargod, Mar 5: In a shocking incident which occurred at Chertala near here on Tuesday March 4, a girl who was driven by the enthusiasm to enact hanging scene in front of her sibling, paid by her life in the process.

She was trying to imitate a suicide scene shown on television by hanging, when she actually got trapped in the noose and it was too late before someone could help her out.

Srilakshmi (17), daughter of Muralidharan and Sindhu couple from Puttarvali in Maruttorvattam, Chertala, had recently watched a scene in her neighbour’s television in which a girl had hanged herself. Srilakshmi made a noose by using a nylon cloth and was enacting the said suicide scene in the presence of her sister, Jayalaxmi, when she could not free herself from the noose.

As soon as she saw her sister struggling for breath, Jayalakshmi raised an alarm and called her neighbours, as parents were not at home at the time. Those living in  the neighbourhood rushed to the spot and admitted Srilakshmi into a hospital but it was too late for doctors to save her.

Hanif, I heard somebody talking in the public the other day about the curse of having a TV that disturbs the mindset. The best solution to this problem is to take your TV set and throw it out of your house ... let it let you live in peace.

A sad incident. May the soul of Srilakhsmi rest in eternal peace. My deepest sympathies to her parents and all her near and dear ones. This is a clear example for all who watch such TV serials and movies as they are all fake.

My heart goes out to the family involved. The victim being only 17 years old was at an impressionable age. Many television programs nowadays have shows which highlight crime, cheating and violence. Movies shown on television too have intimate scenes which make it unsuitable for a child to watch. Watching all this seem to create an impression in the mind of the young that these acts are acts of virtue. RIP.

Maturity counts ... don't always blame the media ... Media (not always .. but this being an exceptional case) is doing its job of depicting the difference of good with evil.

Most of the present crimes are imitation of scenes of the TV serials. Our serials are mostly give importance to crime instead of any reformation in the society.Government has to stop this and only allow serials with moral values.Thanq.
