We don"t have a Traffic Dept.,under Police to enforce Traffic law. First of all, there is no law for motorists, bicycle riders, auto rickshaw drivers & to j-walkers on the street. This can be done educating Police Dept., and or learning from Other countries. We still live far behind, when will this be improved ? Is there a sign on street to guide riders/motorists to show speed limit, or lanes to drive? when will this happen ?Know there are plenty of drivers exhibiting adventure on road, result, fatal injuries or death.

Mr. Joseph, Doha, Qatar: I agree with you 100% what you have written. I had lived in Mumbai and Mumbai people have a better traffic sense because very very few accidents were taking place in spite of thick population. I travel to Bangalore often and it is still better. You can not change people here, even God comes here, people do not bother. It is so risky to drive and walk on the streets of Mangalore. Most of the time during the day time, I am on the wheels and it is agonizing to drive here. Absolutely there is no traffic sense here.

This morning, at about 9.50 am, right near the Father Mullers Hospital, Kankanady, a student Lady Doctor, wearing a Doctor's coat, talking on Mobile phone walking on the Centre of the busy Fr. Mullers -Valencia-Jeppu-Mangaladevi road, , would have been knocked down by a Loaded Lorry and I had to shout at the Doctor Student Lady to move away from the center to the side of the road, thus she saved herself. Otherwise, she would had certain death and blame would have fallen on the poor lorry driver, inspite of her fault.
Now what you have to say of these so called future Doctors of the country behaving like this on the road and not have traffic sense? God has to save us Mr. Joseph. Jai Hind.

I think our wavelength frequency is on the same lines, our band-width matches each other. That's what I meant about civic sense. Absent-mindedness results in apathy. The education imparted today on the younger generation is a total farce. You were a god sent angel right on time to save that irresponsible lady doctor from the jaws of death. My conscience keeps pricking out to me and asking me (I was not there with you at the incident site) if it created any fear psychosis on that lady or whether she will keep adopting a ''care-a-damn-attitude'' mentality. You didn't mention whether she cared to say a thank you to you, did she? Anyway sir, yours was a noble act.

PS : Please keep conversing with each other. My email id is dsilva_p@rediffmail.com. I will be very happy to hear from you.

Mr. Joseph. Doha, Qatar: That lady did not bother to say a word of thanks, nor she looked at me, instead she walked on the other side, keeping her head down. May be she was having a "care-a-damn-attitude" and still engrossed with herself. But the passerby auto drivers had appreciated me and wondering what type of lady she was. Had the fast moving city bus, had approached in that direction or opposite at that time, the situation was different. This incident happened right in front of ICICI bank and SBI Life Insurance office, next to Fr. Mullers hospital. I was waiting to take a turn to the right side, after ping my daughter there, but stopped as the loaded lorry was approaching, but noticed the irresponsible lady student doctor on the mobile on the centre of the road and asked her to move to the side.

I have the satisfaction that I saved her life from the impending jaws of death. It is our duty to save life.God save us.

Every day will not be Sunday. I always see these 2 wheelers sometimes coming in mid of the road, sometimes from wrong side, some time, entering from service road without even seeing the other side any body approaching... many times they may escape from disasters... but one day... almighty may not be there with them.. so I told every day is not Sunday... one day you will pay a huge penalty for your mistakes and it will be your life. These 2 wheel riders never think that. They will be happy while escaping looking at others riders as jokers. Actually, they are jokers who need to think their life was at risk , not the opponents. Anyways, lost life is lost. The losers will be his parents and other dependents... RIP

RIP the deceased biker. There is no safety on Indian roads every 1 knows the fact. So drive slowly & carefully without alcohol, that's the safety. Over speeding, overtaking the vehicles in highways is a big risk.
By the way, why do u hide your real name always well wisher or hell wisher?

This Accident took place little far from the santhekatte Junction. Riding 2 wheelers from Mangalore to Kundapur is very Dangerous. I Request the youths try to Avoid Riding 2 wheelers on NH. Crossing the Road on Santhekatte Junction also difficult for kids,Womens and aged. Underground Crossing is Necessary here. My sympathies to the deceased family. May his soul rest in peace.

You are talking nonsense, Sunil. If India poses all these things it will not be India.. Think what is required for the country at this stage.

You are in a GCC country which is pretty small to manage and ruled by a king, but the same does not apply to India.

Overspending in ?Bike and loosing life is possible in any part of the World (including GCC). you cannot blame anybody its just the fate.

    Mr. Ashwin,

I think they can at least do one thing which they have already started, that is speeding up the double road work or else these sacrifices on this road will go on and on and...........

Bring out the rules like in Gulf countries:

    - Compulsory Yearly registration of the vehicles
    - Blood money on accident killings
    - Compulsory yearly efficiency checking of vehicles
    - Widen the roads
    - Install CCTV in every junction and buildings
    - Introduce high fine on breaking traffic rules

Automatically all the blames would vanish...and people would follow the rules.

All these are efficiently implemented across the GCC ... Except point no. 5 (not expedited across all the GCC, in process, but will be realized in due time) however, it will never be realized in our great country ... due to several factors ... you know what I imply.

    Sunil...

In the junction of santhkatte...just install a signal..it's enough.
From four sides vehicles plying..from local as well as from highway..!!
Sometimes even vehicles are confused a lot..
After all vehicles which are plying from other states are not much aware of local roads prominently..there itself it makes a mistake.
Now-a-days they even enlarge the road..make even people to cross the road.

I agree with Bollu here. It's very very confusing at the Santhekatte junction. After putting a signal there, they should put up a pedestrian overbridge there. So many lives will be saved.

Mr. Joseph, Doha, Qatar and Sunil Mangalore: May the soul of the bike rider rest in peace.
As per the news, and the account of the eyewitness, it was the bike rider was riding at high speed and could not control the vehicle and collided with head on with the truck. It is purely the bike rider was at fault.
We Indians are No. 1 in the world in blaming others when fault lies with oneself.

You come and see in Mangalore and other places in Karnataka how the two wheelers zoom in the midst of the heavy traffic and endangering not only their lives and but that of others also. I have travelled most of the length and breadth of karnataka and specially DK, Udupi and Mysore districts. It is no point in blaming others and let us learn not to blame others when the fault lies with oneself. Life lost can not be brought back, whoever may be at fault. Let us drive safely. Jai Hind.

Mr. Edward R. Monteiro, Kulshekar, Mangalore

Being from Bombay, I have umpteen number of times written on this forum concerning the reckless driving at Mangalore. It is sick and crazy and more pathetic ... 'cos there is no civic sense at all. Even if there were to be a campaign concerning awareness of reckless spending, I think it would just evaporate in thin air ... like petrol. Because we are like that only ... we are very lethargic and the message is never taken in the right frame of mind. You can correct me if I am wrong. Unlike there in Mangalore, the situation is a total 360 degrees turn around in Bombay.. Probably because Bombayites have civic sense and more importantly, we have alternate means of transport, unlike Mangalore which only depends on roads. But still there should be a certain amount of awareness amongst the masses ... the trend at which deaths are rapidly rising in this coastal town should make any stubborn hearted person shudder when seeing death practically face-to-face ... on a point blank basis. Gone are the days when there was sympathy expressed on the demise of a precious life .. but today, nobody has the time, nobody cares to even whisper a prayer for the departed soul ... leave aside consoling, even if it is a dear friend or a kith or kin.

My objective is to drive home the message .. meant particularly for young hot blooded guys of today's era who like to zip zap and zoom.
