Mangalore: 'Nrutya Sandhya' showcases colourful 'Rangapravesham' of Sonia Lobo

Mangalore, Mar 9: 'Nrutya Sandhya', the 'Rangapravesham' of Sonia Lobo, a student of Bharathanjali, co-sponsored by Kannada and Culture Bangalore, was held at Mangalore Town Hall on Sunday March 9.

The event began with a traditional puja for the God of all dance forms—Nataraja. Natyarani Shanthala Award recipient Guru Ullal Mohan Kumar, Natyanikethan Kolya, lit the lamp and handed over the ‘Gejje’ to Sonia and blessed her. He also handed over the ‘Taala’ to her Guru Prathima Sridhar Holla of Bharathanjali.







































































Various dignitaries such as Captain Ganesh Karnik, member, Legislative Council, Government of Karnataka, Dr B V Sathyanarayana, managing director, Karnataka Milk Federation(KMF), Dr Dilip Kumar K, principal Sri Devi Institute of Technology, and Sridhar Holla of Bharathanjali were also present on the occasion and blessed Sonia on her endeavour.

Various forms of Bharathanatyam, namely ‘Pushpanjali’, ‘Ardhanarishwara’, ‘Aadithaala’, ‘Thillana’, ‘Stuthi’, ‘Varna’, and ‘Abhinaya’ were performed by Sonia on the occasion.

Udayavani bureau chief Manohar Prasad compered the event.


About Sonia Lobo:

Sonia Lobo is one of the most distinguished disciples of renowned Bharatanatyam exponents Prathima Sridhar and Sridhar Holla at the prestigious Bharathanjali School of Dance, Mangalore. She was initiated into the classical dance form at the age of seven. She has completed her pre-Vidwat and is now pursuing her post Vidwat.

As an inspiring artist she has given solo as well as group performances with her Gurus on various platforms in and around Karnataka. Not restricting her circle of art to Bharathanatyam she also holds junior grade in Carnatic music under the guidance of Sudhamani Krishnamurthy.

Sonia, the granddaughter of K K Joseph and Asha Joseph and daughter of Surya Lobo is currently pursuing her final year B E in Electronics and Communication at Sri Devi Institute of Technology, Mangalore.


About Bharathanjali:

Bharathanjali was established with the motto of safeguarding our rich cultural heritage, our diverse language, art, culture, customs and traditions, along with encouraging our youth to think about national interest and service to the society. The whole-hearted support and encouragement of Karnataka Kala Thilaka Ullala Mohan Kumar and dance Vidushi Kamala Bhat helped in the formation of Bharathanjali in 1995.
