Mangalore: St Ann’s College of Education celebrates Women's Day

Mangalore, Apr 1: The St Ann’s College of Education organized ‘Sthree Utsav’ (International Women’s Day) on April 1 in the college conference hall with the purpose of celebrating womanhood and to pay tribute to the indomitable spirit of women across the globe.

The programme began with a prayer song; the guests were honoured and felicitated by the MEd students.

'Perfection at, perseverance for success, profound commitment to family, passion for purity, all employed in a woman' was highlighted significantly through a presentation. This was followed by the release of a book ‘Exploring Women – the Instructional methods in women’s studies,’ prepared by the MEd students under the guidance of Dr Shashikala A, associate professor and published by Dr Sr Clare, the principal.

The MEd students documented the contributions of great women icons in India in a digital form. The chief guest prof Hilda Rayappan, founder director of Prajna counseling centre, Mangalore released the book and Dr Sr Shalini, the superior released the CD.

A glimpse of the book released was given by Dr Ammal Kutty who gave a brief review about the contents in the book and expressed her views on how women’s abilities were assessed as to how they see themselves, integrate their work and family and face atrocities in life as well. A presentation of significant lives of women personalities encircled the portrayal of all outstanding figures who have played a key role in preserving order and normalcy in midst of chaos and destruction and also undertaken the task of coping with changes and adversities in their surroundings.

Prof Hilda Rayappan, a renowned social worker was felicitated for her valued services to the marginalized and deprived sessions of society. In her keynote address she touched upon the mental agony faced by distressed women and girls due to harassment, sexual molestation and other family problems. Her message to the audience was to develop women as powerful human resources towards bringing about radical changes in the existing attitudinal structures of the community.

The BEd and the MEd students joined in singing group songs that gave a call for every woman to rise and bring changes to this world. The finer depiction of the transition in women scenario focussing the theme ‘female infanticide and dowry demand’ was presented through rhythmic dances by the students. The Med students joined in chorus singing the ‘assamese tribal karbi song,’ which invokes the spirit of God on human beings. Fr Maskaranas and Kaveri compered the programme. William proposed the vote of thanks.
