Mumbai, Jun 30: Retracting his earlier statement, a witness in the 2002 hit-and-run case involving Bollywood actor Salman Khan on Thursday told a court that he had not seen the star driving the car when the incident occurred.

Mohammed Abdul Kaufsheikh told the trial court that he had not seen Salman getting out of the driver's seat of the car because he was underneath the vehicle.

The witness said on September 28, 2002, the day of the accident, he was fast asleep outside a bakery. On being hurt, he opened his eyes and found himself underneath the car.

He said he heard people shouting "Salman Khan come out of the car" but he had not seen the actor.

Kaufsheikh had earlier told police in a statement made after the mishap that he had seen Salman getting out of the driver's seat.

Salman had allegedly rammed his car into a bakery in suburban Bandra, killing one person and injuring four, according to prosecution.
