Mangalore, Jul 18: Following the landslide at Mittur near Kabaka on Puttur-Mangalore railway track on Sunday July 16, experts have stated that the much awaited railway link to Hassan will never be safe.

The experts have figured out 13 places between the city and Puttur, which are vulnerable for landslide.  The report says that 9 places between Subraymanya and Puttur are unsafe, and could face landslide at any time.  Adding to this is the report by the railway department which states that Sakleshpur-Subrahmanya route too is very much vulnerable for landslides.  If this is the case, then there is no doubt that the much hyped Mangalore-Bangalore railway route would be a distant dream.

Meanwhile, it is said that the railways has incurred a total loss of Rs 50 lac, owing to landslide on Sunday at Mittur.  The entire railway track at Mittur is buried under the mud.  Though it was said that the route was cleared, it is not.  Work is still going on, to clear the way.

A goods train carrying ore from Torangal to New Mangalore Port is stationed at Puttur station owing to landslide.  Workers have been working day-in-and-day-out to clear the way.
