Mangalore, Aug 5: Apart from imparting education, feeding children under the Mid-day Meal Scheme, schools in Beltangady taluk will also grow vegetables!

To attract children to attend school and to hold them back from quitting, the State Government brought the mid day meal scheme. But now 85 schools will have gardens which will grow vegetables for the mid day meals.

This is an effort to provide fresh vegetables to children. The first school to have its own garden is the Padangady Government Higher Primary School at Beltangady. The garden was inaugurated by Hemavathi Heggade of Dharmastala.

The gardens are set up by Dharmastala Village Development Project in 85 schools of the taluk.
