NEW DELHI, Aug 8: The Delhi Police arrested Fazl-ur-Rahman, against whom a red corner notice was issued by Interpol, on the Indo-Nepal border near Gorakhpur.
Rahman, suspected to be key aide of Dawood Ibrahim and wanted in more than 30 cases of extortion, kidnapping for ransom and blackmailing, was arrested on Sunday evening between Sanoli and Gorakhpur by a team of Special Branch, Delhi Police Commissioner K K Paul told reporters here on Monday.
A trap was laid by the police after receiving information that the gangster, who has been elusive for nine years, was frequently visiting his home town in Bihar, Paul said.
Rahman, after staying in Dubai for nine years, had shifted his base to Nepal last year, the commissioner said.
He was brought to Delhi by road and was presented in a court today, Paul said, adding he has been given 10 days police custody.
Rahaman was also friends with Babloo Shrivastava, accused in several criminal cases, the police said.
