Margao, Sep 7: Erstwhile state MP and NRI Commissioner has opined that to solve the script controversy of Goa  both the Devnagari and Roman script writers should come together and also said that Konkani in devnagari should be taught in the schools.
 
Konkani writers in Roman and Devnagari should have the same rights, privileges and opportunities in every respect. However, teaching of Konkani in schools should be only in Devnagri, he reiterated while speaking on the function held to celebrate the 450 year of printing press ventured in Goa.


 ZP member Nelly Rodrigues, South Goa ZP chairperson Joe Dias, chief guest Eduard Faeiro, Wilson Mazarelo, Ulhas Buyao, Tomazin Cardoz and Michael Gracias, on the occasion of releasing the magzine Jivit

 "Our children will need Devnagri in future. For which learning Konkani in Devnagari is important," he said further.

He said the divide between those using Roman and Devnagari scripts was for historical reasons. The previous colonial regime followed the policy of divide and rule. He appealed to the representatives of both Roman and Devnagari groups to come together and arrive at amicable solution. 
 
During this programme which was organized by Kala Niketan in association with Goa Konkani Academy, ‘Jivit’ (Life), a new Konkani magazine in Roman script was released through the hands of Faleiro.
 
Publisher of the magazine Michael Gracias said that the aim of publishing magazine was to give a boost to upcoming writers and to take the palanquin of Konkani language to greater heights.
 
Editor Vincy Quadros welcomed the gathering, Fr Pratap Naik spoke on the importance of the day and how the printing press ventured into Goa.
