Mangalore, Aug 25: Two fishermen were feared drowned after their country boat capsized about 500 metres off the coast of Mukka here on Monday August 25.

It is said that on Monday morning, seven persons, identified as Chandra, Ritesh, Anand, Anil, Manoj Suvarna, Tejpal and Madhukar went fishing in the country boat belonging to Manoj.

On the way back in the evening, the boat got stuck in an estuary about 500 metres away from the shore and capsized.

Among the seven, four managed to swim to safety while Madhukar (38) and Tejpal (22) were pulled in by the waves.

The other fishermen raised an alarm and Suratkal police along with coast guard personnel began to search for the missing persons.

Locals said that Madhukar was an expert swimmer and used to go deep fishing at Panambur. He got married three years ago and is the only son of his parents. He has three sisters.

Both Madhukar and Tejpal are residents of Sasihitlu.

Search operation for the missing persons is on. The locals too offered prayers for their safety.

True. But our INDIANS "Chalta hai" attitude is the main problem. Why can't people think of their safety when venturing into dangerous situations. 2 precious lives lost in the process.

The Guy who went to save Tejpal was very experienced in swimming. Commenting about Life Jacket is very easy, but only fishermen knows their problem about life jacket. This is not about Chalta hai or Cost of Life Jacket. Its all about fate!

Dear Jossey, Its better you gather some information before commenting. Life jackets are freely distrusted to fishermen. But Life Jackets only works in deep sea where the waves are much calmer and there is no risk of hitting any Rocks. Small boat fishermen work near the shore where the sea currents and waves are much stronger, wearing a life jacket will only increase the risk of hitting a rock because it will be not possible to dive inside the water when a strong wave approaches. And also wearing a life jacket does not allow free movement at work.
