Mangalore, Sep 5: "Teachers play an important role in stopping or controlling communal clashes in cities. It would be better if the deputy commissioner calls teachers for emergency meetings in such situations along with the police and the politicians," said MLC Ivan D’Souza at Town Hall here on Friday September 5.

He was speaking during the Teachers' Day Celebration hosted by DK zilla panchayat and public education department.

Addressing the teachers who were present on the occasion, he said, “During such communal outbreaks, those who are involved in the clashes do not listen to the police or the politicians, but they will certainly listen to their teachers who taught them."

He also said that there are 6 lac vacancies for the post of teachers in the state.

In his presidential address, J R Lobo, MLA said that India cannot not be developed with agriculture alone. "Human resource is another important factor. For this, education is a must and the teachers have a big role to play in this," he added.

Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP said, "Our country has a tradition of respecting teachers the most. To build a great nation, the contribution of teachers is a mustl; it is not possible by politicians alone. The present education system was introduced by Lord Macaulay. But the system has become commercial today and this has to stop."

Mayor Mahabala Maarla said, "Today we hear a lot of wrongdoings committed by teachers. This should not happen."

As many as 53 retired teachers were felicitated on the occasion.

Raghav D, retired teacher and Herald M Monteiro, retired headmaster of Milagres School spoke on the occasion.

Raghav said, "We were only three teachers in the school and we had to manage first to seventh grades daily. Such problem exists even today."

The programme witnessed an hour-long Yakshagana performance and other cultural programmes.

Certificates were distributed to schools which secured cent percent results in the SSLC exams.

Vasudeva Rao and Raghav D were honoured for receiving district best teachers award.

Speech is cheap and easy to mouth off. But actions are expensive. Teachers have enough headaches to deal with Children and their selfish, arrogant Parents. Do not need extra headaches of Communal problems. Communal problems are created mostly by Politicians and all other NGO,s.and Religion based groups One political party wants to get even with another party try gimmicks of communal crossovers.
Teachers do not need advise from Politicians, that's it. They taught Politicians on how to behave and it will be nice if they act that way. I had a great laugh of the day when a Politician said that Great Nation cannot be built by Politicians alone.!!!! This great nation is in mess because of fraud by elected, criminal people. Teachers should correct them instead of Communal problem

Surely, Teachers can play a good role in communal harmony. But, first abolish all the students unions like SFI, CYSS, NSUI, ABVP, CFI, BVS, etc.,
