Mangalore: Seven of family from Jeppu stranded in J&K, rescue efforts on

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Sep 10: Seven members of a single family from Jeppu in the city have been stranded in rain-ravaged Kashmir valley, which is experiencing unprecedented floods. Efforts to rescue them and bring them back are on.

Krishnanda Rao (J K Rao), former governor of Lions Club, and resident of Jeppu here, his wife, Lata Mallika Rao, their relatives, Ramanand Rao, Sowmini Rao, Veekshita Rao, Anil Rao, and Rajashree Rao have got stuck in Jammu and Kashmir state as floods have cut off all communications and movement of traffic there. Rescue operation for saving those who have got stranded there has been undertaken on a war footing.

Former state minister and relative of the above family, Krishna J Palemar, has been putting forth his best efforts to extend all help to the family by contacting union railway minister, D V Sadananda Gowda, and other officials, it is gathered.

The family had left the city by train for touring Jammu and Kashmir on August 28. The family, which visited various places there, remained in touch with friends and relatives here over phone. The last call from the family came at 5.30 pm from Avantipura in southern Kashmir on September 6, it is learnt.

Thereafter, television and print media began carrying stories about the havoc let loose by the heavy downpour there. Although friends and family members had tried to call all the above persons, they got the message that these mobile phones had remained switched off. This gave rise to jitters.

After Palemar got into the task, location of mobile phones were checked. It was found that the last call from the family came from the home of Maimoona Banu and Mohammed Amin in Avantipura in Pulwana district. Officials who visited this house confirmed that all the seven persons from Mangalore were safe and residing there. The officials informed both Sadananda Gowda and Palemar that efforts are being made to send them back to Karnataka are on.

Palemar, besides contacting Sadananda Gowda, also established contact with various high-ranking officials from the state and central government, and asked them to extend help to rescue this stranded family. Gowda also instructed railway officials to get involved with this task. Palemar said that efforts to bring these seven people to the city by a flight from Srinagar are on with the help of railway officials and National Disaster Response Force.

MR.AF - I would like to know what would you have done if your family was in Kashmir right now! Wouldn't you have approached a politician to get in touch with your family??? Use your brains, its only politicians who have contacts at the highest level and what is wrong in utilizing it at this time of crisis. I know Palemar very well and I'm sure he would have done his best to help you, if your family was stuck there. Stop politicizing everything and learn to be a human first.

Thanks a lot for Gowda and Palemar for the assistance given.

I am sure any one from Dakshina Kannada or Udupi districts approached Gowda or Palemar with details of missing relatives in Kashmir, they would have got the same response.

This is a natural calamity and it is nice to know that people from Mangalore were offered accommodation by kashmiri muslim family.

Hope all the stranded people return safely to their homes.

I have certain things to tell Af and William Rodrigues . Please stop politicizing everything . You have no idea what really happened . You are commenting on this thread purely because of what information you have received from reading it .You don't have sense to know about a certain incident first before commenting on it Even if Ministers were involved in helping their return it was the IAF , Army and NDRF to whom the credit goes for rescuing and thousands of other stranded people . You can never know what through for so many days .
You are just politically biased . To an extent that even that even an entire family's lives are meaningless to you . And for the other people who were rescued these past few days the Army has given equal importance and care . If anybody from Mangalore has relatives trapped there they can contact the district administration and get in touch with their loved ones.

Shameless are people like you who get religion and politics to everything. If you would have your family in kashmir caught up in flood, you would feel the pain. Army, Airforce and navy where the real saviours. In the time of crisis it was the INDIAN army, airforce and navy which saved and still saving lives there. i hope the kashmir people too realise this too. Jai hind. Jai Bharath Mata..

They were put up by a family in Kashmir for 3 days, helped by the Army, Navy, Air Force and NDRF(do you know the religion, relatives, political status of these Jawans). But yes you have freedom of speech and can comment rubbish. Rather than thinking about the political inclinations, religions etc. spend some more time in trying to help the others who have been stranded. Sitting in the comfort of your home and commenting doesn't help. Stand Up and be someone your children will be proud of. If you don't like what you read TURN OFF THE MONITOR. Shame!
And by the way the family that helped them for 3 days was Muslim.

Tragedy is certainly devastating. God only should them all. No doubt Indian personnel is doing a fantastic job.
There are so many from Karnataka and Mangalore too struck in this calamity but our ex-minister seems to be interested only in this family's welfare. Is it just because they are related to him.
Any how good luck to his efforts.

Mr. William, sorry to be rude, but please grow up. How do you know that he has not been helping anyone else apart from this family? You should understand that ex-minister is trying his best to save relatives. What has the CM or any other politician from DK done to get in touch with the family? God forbid, but if your own family members was trapped there, you wouldn't have spoken like this. Get a life man! If you can't appreciate someone's effort at least keep your mouth shut. That's the least you can do.
