I dont understands the narrow mentality of Indians.Death penalty for pedlars ...SERIOUSLY.Let the indian government legalize cannabis .Ganja has proven medical Health benefits. Even in US some states have legalized controlled usage of ganja.Hinduism and Ganja have great history. India is a slave of international policies.US lobbied hard to ban ganja in India.Ppl please make proper research on what u comment and learn about it later.

Until very strict long term prison sentences are imposed, the drug traffickers will not stop their business of killing people.

Let catch hold of the people buying drugs from these peddlers ....Put all of them behind bars.....There will be half of mangalorean youths behind bars....
Then catch hold of the cops and the political leaders who are involved in this mafia.....there will be no police men and politicians left .....
This is a bigger issue then just arresting some small time peddlers

Sensible comment. It is just a relaxing substance and less harmful compared to tobacco. Many people do not know this fact only talk about harsher punishment like beheading. Medical marijuana may be an effective cancer treatment and an alternative to many drugs. In the US many states have legalized use of marijuana.

Ganja (aka Marijuana/Weed/Pot/Grass) grows naturaly in the foothills of the Himalayas and has been used by Indians for centuries for it's various uses one of which has been smoking for relaxation (because it has none of the hundreds of carcinogens present as compared to tobacco).
It has been unfairly been demonised by the developed world by placing it in a class of processed drugs/hardcore narcotics such as Heroin and Cocaine. Bowing to US/IMF pressure India has criminalised the substance in return for aid/favours in defence etc. (The so called 'war on drugs' in the USA has been a spectacular failure in its almost 100 years of existence).

The irony is that the same countries that criminalised Ganja and made it unavailable for entire generations of their citizens are now going about legalising it! This about-turn comes after users sought alternative forms for relaxation and encountered deadly and extremely addictive synthetic substances such as crystal methamphetamine aka 'ice'. The use of ice has reached epidemic proportions in developed countries who have themselves to blame. In criminalising and alienating natural and medicinal substances such as ganja they helped create the market for synthetic drugs when there wasn't any and now the frankenstein monster cannot be controlled.

In desperation, the developed countries are legalising the very substance that shouldn't have been banned and criminalised - ganja - ostensibly in the guise of 'medical marijuana'! The fools!

The Indian subcontinent whose citizens have for centuries has been using the natural hemp plant for relaxation, medicinal uses etc goes about following illogically crafted laws banning the substance (ganja) and now we read small fish caught and sentenced (5 years of wait for the judicial machinery to work - a joke in itself!) and the commentors here talking about Sharia Law and beheadings!

Need strict laws like Saudi laws where drug trafficker is beheaded. Secondly both the accused are muslims, I wud have been more than happier if Saudi sharia laws were allied here and verdict in the light of this law would have been pronounced...beheading... the drug is silent killer and has destroyed many young lives and many families..

ONLY 2 years of imprisonment for drug trafficking? Death would have been appropriate as these people play with life young and innocent life of children/students.

Good judgment, even Vietnam & Singapore, has better legal system than India. Death penalty is the best punishment for drug trafficking.

If they are caught in June 2009, they might have already completed their imprisonment of 2 years. Or this 2 years are in addition to the 5 years which they already completed before getting the judgement?
