Team Mangalore kites depicting Indian culture conquer Dieppe skies

Media Release

Mangalore, Sep 18: Team Mangalore, a city-based hobby group of kite flyers, literally came out with 'flying colours' at the 18th International Festival of Kites organized in Dieppe, France recently.

Team Mangalore showcased its vibrant kite creations first in its parade through the streets of Dieppe dressed in Indian attire. The skies shone with its new creations 'Vibhishana', 'Sangam' and train kite faced Yaksha.

The rest of the kites 'Devendra', 'Gajaraja', 'Pushpaka Vimana', 'Bharthanatyam', 'Durga', 'Garuda' and more soar into the sky swinging to the music of the waves of the sea at Dieppe.

India and Indonesia were featured as the guests of honour teams at the festival. India was clubbed with Team Mangalore, Mumbai Golden Kite Club and Puppet Team of Rajasthan.

On stage, dance performance by the Indian settlers in France and Indonesia’s Elima Bogus Team were other highlights of the event.

The International Association Tagore Sangam founded on the initiative by an Indian in France, Azarie Aroulandom, depicted the life of Rabindranath Tagore through photography exhibition. Dinesh Holla’s ‘Pebbles’ line drawing works was displayed at the exhibition stand of the festival. His art works put up at the stand were a success, as they were purchased by art collectors and visitors.

Dieppe mayor Sebastian Jumiel felicitated Dinesh Holla with a letter and certificate in recognition to his talent in designing the publicity poster of the festival. The poster won the attention of the visitors, who purchased copies signed by Dinesh Holla. This indeed was a matter of pride and honour to Team Mangalore.

The kites of Team Mangalore are a showcase of the workmanship of Sarvesh Rao. Every kite, worked upon manually by him day and night, was highly appreciated. The subject of Indian culture and its colourful combinations won recognition to Team Mangalore at the festival.

Team Mangalore’s ‘Kathakali’ kite holds a place in Limca Book of Records. Team Mangalore has participated in international kite festivals in UK, Canada, Italy, South Korea, Hong Kong, Thailand, Srilanka, Dubai and Qatar. Team Mangalore is looking forward to making its new creations Matsyakanya and Maharaja.
