Mangalore: Policeman who set example for humanity even in death

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Sep 19: A person who can take both birth and death with an equanimous mindset and is able to practice a sense of detachment and altruism when alive and also upon death, leaves behind a footprint that is reverred and worth emulating. People of the coast are known for their gentlemanly behaviour and friendly attitude. A policeman who lost his life in a tragic road accident on Wednesday in the city has exhibited to the world that policemen from the coast are as friendly and as humanitarian as the common people living here.

Bhaskar (48), who was a commoner working for the police force, met a tragic death in road accident. But he upheld exceptional human values by donating his organs, thus leaving the people of coastal Karnataka proud of him. Bhaskar, serving as head constable in traffic (east) police station here, is remembered as a friendly person. By donating his eyes, he has provided meaningful existence to two human beings, while his kidneys will come as saving grace for two more.

By opting to donate his organs when alive, Bhaskar has risen to be a role model for others in the land. As per his own accord, his eyes and kidneys were donated after he died in a terrible road accident at Pumpwell Circle in the city.

Bhaskar was simplicity and gentlemanliness personified. Because of his excellent work and duty-conscious attitude, he had come in for lavish praise both from his colleagues, higher ups in the department, and the general public. Although his death was unexpected, untimely, and gory, he and his legacy will live on in the form of four persons who will be immensely thankful to this noble soul, explained former city corporator, Padmanabha.

Brother of the deceased head constable's wife, speaking to Daijiworld, stated that his brother-in-law had served at different police stations in the city, and that the donation of organs as willed by him was executed by doctors of KMC Hospital here. He added that he was told by the doctors that this gesture of Bhaskar has resulted in saving four lives.

Bhaskar, who was on duty when he was moving in a two-wheeler on Wednesday morning, was killed after a Maruti car hit his vehicle from the front side. A constable named Ashwini Shetty was injured in the accident. Shetty is undergoing treatment at a hospital in the city. Bhaskar's wife, who was shocked by the sudden demise of her husband, stands hospitalized. Bhaskar, who has left behind wife and a 12-year-old daughter, has held high the humanitarian concern even in death.

Let us bid adieu to this great man with a salute of reverence, and with the fervent wish, 'may his tribe increase'.

hats of to him, by bieng a example for the society.but feeling sorry he has lost his valuable life very early.let god give his family to control thier pain.but one question still remains in my mind.why our district administration or police department is still not bothered to install the signals atleast in main traffic points. do we dont have electricity to run the signal lights or are we still in 1970s.atleast put a automatic signals and atleast single police man if you are lack of manpower in department.i really feel sorry 1 or 2 police man are controlling traffic at pumpwell circle. common administration, wake up.atleast do this and make a smoothly traffic and save some valuable life of mangloreans.

Great. My special prayer - "May his soul Rest In Peace."I am saluting the family members who are supported Bhaskeranna's noble cause. These kind of sacrifice need to be recorded by district authority for inspiring others to follow him. Can some one enlighten one article in this line - what is the procedure to be followed ? So that many of us take proactive steps.

Don't understand why Pillion riders don't need to wear helmet.
It's a common sense that If any motor bicycle involve in accidents both riders will be thrown. In fact pillion would impact the most.
Don't wait for the government to imply such rules,, UR safety in your hand. No one is made of steel head.
Mr Bhaskar could be survived I guess, If he had worn a helmet. Anyway deep condolences for his sad demise, speedy recovery Ashwin.

because you will have to carry an extra helmet at all times, secondly in india we even take our children on the bike, and its even 2 pillion riders. So tell me how you will make a law on this.

Bhasker has set an example to many. Indeed he is a role model for the Police Force. He was a dedicated person and was more a friend of the public than a policeman.

I wish there could be more compassionate persons like Bhasker. May his family be blessed. Since Bhasker died while on duty, hope the department will duly compensate his family.
