I'm no savior: Nilmar

Rio De Janeiro, Sep 20 (IANS): Former Villarreal striker Nilmar has urged fans not to consider him a "savior" as he attempts to help Internacional end a 35-year title drought in Brazil's Serie A football league.

The 30-year-old was officially presented to Internacional fans Friday after agreeing to rejoin his former club earlier in the week, reports Xinhua.

"I have a big responsibility and it's a new challenge but I'm not a savior," Nilmar told a press conference.

"I want to help as much as I can by contributing on the pitch. But Inter have other important players. We know that one player doesn't decide the league."

It will be Nilmar's third spell with the Porto Alegre side, for whom he has scored 64 goals in 150 matches. Internacional beat off interest from Corinthians to seal the deal with the former Brazil striker, who left Qatari outfit El Jaish in July.

Nlmar admits to feeling frustrated at times during his two year-spell in Qatar, but says he has no regrets.

"I'm more mature now. Life there was fantastic even if, as a player, there was something missing," he said.

"I am used to playing at a higher level but it's not always 100 percent professional there. I want to experience the adrenaline of playing again as soon as possible."

Nilmar's contract - worth a reported $400,000 a month - ties him to the Porto Alegre club until the end of 2017.

He said he is already thinking about scoring goals and winning trophies.

"I feel like I did when I was 18 years old, with the same desire to succeed that I had in my first match as a professional," he said.

Internacional are currently third in Brazil's top-flight standings, 11 points behind leaders Cruzeiro with 16 matches remaining in the season.
