Mangalore, Oct 5: “To control infant mortality rate, the health department will provide proper training to THO (taluk health officers) and DHO (district health officers) doctors and nurses especially those who attend to delivery cases," said health and family welfare minister U T Khadar.
He was briefing the media at Eden Club here on Sunday October 5 about his recent visit to Cape Town in South Africa where he attended Third Global Symposium on Health Systems Research organized by World Health Organization (WHO).
Revealing a plan that aims to bring about better coordination between researchers, doctors and policy makers, Khadar said, "The health department will hold meeting once in three months along with researchers and NGOs whose works are related to health sector. Six months prior to introducing any programme, the department will also consult researchers.
"The representatives and policy makers will emphasize on perfectly implementing the rules. The researchers and administration will think on perfecting the measures thus taken. The project will be successfully implemented if it is perfected in all ways. There was discussion about the health insurance during the symposium and I was against insurance policies being handed over to companies," he informed.
"If researchers study about infant mortality and maternity death, they can provide suggestion to the department which could prevent such deaths and would be easy for the department to take future measures, chalk out plans and ensure implementation of effective programmes to curb the infant and maternity death," he further added.
Regarding the Cape Town symposium he said, "There was discussion on health system and healthcare programme. Several researchers and policy makers and representatives from various countries attended the programme. From India, I attended this symposium. Discussion was held on various subjects, research, policies administration and monitoring which could be effectively implemented."
He will visit the union health minister on October 7 to discuss about various issues, he informed.
Regarding the Siddakatte incident, he alleged that opposition leaders are misleading people and trying to defame his reputation and said, "A few miscreants are conspiring in misleading people against me with baseless allegations. I am not protecting or rescuing anyone by making calls to police station. Police are acting as per the law."
He also said that on this issue he will take legal action against those who are misleading the people against him. He has already asked superintendent of police to give clarification, he said.
