Udupi: ACSA protests demanding changes to CET Act

Udupi, Dec 24: The All College Students’ Association (ACSA) staged a massive protest on Tuesday December 23 near Clock Tower, Udupi, to review the CET Act.

The state government has decided to implement the CET Act in the year 2015-16. The Act is very ambiguous and gives scope for a lot of confusion. Economically weak students might fail to get seats in the college. The private-aided colleges have sovereign power in seat distribution. There is a lot of corruption happening in private educational institutions. The student association is demanding changes in the new CET Act.

Veekshith Bhandary, Barkur, district convener, ACSA, speaking to the media said, “The new CET Act is unscientific and the state government has to stop implementation of the new Act. There is need to revise the rules of CET and the gradation system.” He added that this system will spoil the life of the poor student.

Bhandary added that the government should act at the earliest, failing which they will initiate a massive protest.

The demands are as follows:
· The government should clarify the methods of capitation fee collection and seat distribution system

· All private (without grant) professional course colleges must submit their audit report to the Fee Control Committee every year (CBSE syllabus colleges are following the same approach)

· All private (without grant) colleges should give back all original documents like income certificate, caste certificate, SSLC, PUC mark cards, and so on. Each document should carry receipt seals

· It is better that private colleges decide to have minimum marks to get a payment seat

The students shouted slogans. All PU students from Poornaprajna College, Udupi, MGM College, Udupi, SMS College Udupi, and Olakadu PU College, took in the protest.
