Udupi, Dec 29: Chikmangaluru MP, Shobha Karandlaje on Monday December 29 held a meeting regarding the Belgaum house meeting at zilla panchayat auditorium Udupi.

Addressing the media, she said that she was absent at the house meeting held on December 9, as she was present at Suvarna Soudha where she was attacked.

She alleged that the state government has failed in the implementation of its schemes. This year farmers especially from Northern Karnataka have lost confidence in the CM and are disappointed by the decision taken by the session.

Kasturi Rangan report, problems of farmers, tur pulses, arecanut and so on, were the issues discussed in the meeting.

Two major Bills

The submission of Karnataka Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowment (Amendment) Bill 2014 and withdrawal of Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Bill, were the two major bills passed in the meeting.
The cow breed has been on a gradual decline. “We will have a mass protest regarding this in future,” she added.

“The Bengaluru bomb blast was the best example for failure of the state administration”. She alleged that there is a rule mentioned in the law that the chief minister and the home minister should not leave the state on the same date.

She insisted on strengthening the intelligence system, creating alertness in the police department and increasing the police force in sensitive areas.

CM's seriousness on Kasturi Rangan Report

Shobha said that the CM did not know about the Kasturi Ranga report in detail. Taking the example of Kerala, the CM of Kerala has submitted a scientific landscape report within the deadline, but Siddharamaiah has asked for an extension of 2 months for submission. At present the report is in the court.

The Western Ghats region includes 1,576 villages and 20,000 square kilometres. MP Shobha has asked for six months more time for finalizing the report. She asked permission for soil, sand mining and construction works to be conducted.

Ban on Arecanut

Being the issue in court, there is no use for further talks on the matter. However, she approached the department to consider conducting research on natural arecanuts, which are also used in Hindu rituals.

She urged reducing the import duty on arecanuts from Rs 250 to Rs 175. In addition, demands to reduce the generation from 3 to one for providing RTC to tribal community under the welfare act were also raised.

Confusion over BPL cards

There was a lot of confusion in the ration distribution for BPL card holders. Around 12 lacs has been registered under Antyodaya Anna Yojana. But government has failed to provide proper supply of food.

“We have sent a notification to the Tiger Project. The central government will release funds for rehabilitation of animals, after analyzing the state report”, she informed.

Udupi-Manipal- Agumbe route

Speaking to media persons, she said, “People need not worry about changes and encroachment of land for roads. Rs 3.5 crores have been kept for construction of roads and for the construction of tunnels in the Agumbe Ghats”.
