Thief rigs hole through wall, escapes with jewellery worth Rs 25 lac

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Jan 13: In a case which appears to have been picked from a thriller, a thief carved out an 18 inch opening in a wall to gain entry into a jewellery shop at Muneshwara Block in the city on the night of Sunday January 11. The lone thief could steal 500 grams of gold and five kilograms of silver, totally worth about Rs 25 lacs from Ganesh Jewellers owned by Sunilkumar Jain.

Personnel of Girinagar police station here, who took up investigation, said that a nursing home that was functioning adjacent to the jewellery shop with a common wall in between, had been shifted elsewhere about a month back. The thief, who perhaps noticed that the vacated premises of the nursing home was not locked, would have smelt of an opportunity, they presume.

The thief destroyed the CCTV camera immediately after coming in. However, CCTV footage showed that a person who had covered his face with a cloth had entered the shop. Deputy commissioner of police (south), Lokesh Kumar, said that the police have gathered clues about the thief, and exuded confidence of arresting him soon.

The police are continuing with investigation with the help of sniffer dogs and finger print experts. A case stands registered in Girinagar police station.
