Watson wins Hobart International WTA title

Canberra, Jan 17 (IANS): England's Heather Watson won her second Women's Tennis Association (WTA) title, defeating Madison Brengle in the final of the Hobart International Saturday.

The top-ranked Briton and World No.49 downed the American qualifier 6-3, 6-4 in 89 minutes, winning the tournament without dropping a set, reports Xinhua.

Watson, 22, who won in Japan in 2012, is the first British woman with two WTA trophies since Anne Hobbs, who won at Auckland in 1985 and Indianapolis in 1983.

Watson heads to next week's Australian Open in Melbourne where she will meet Bulgaria's Tsvetana Pironkova in the first round.
