Asian Cup winners Australia rise 37 places in Fifa rankings


Beijing, Feb 12 (IANS): Asian Cup football tournament winners Australia have advanced 37 places to the 63rd position in the FIFA world rankings, according to the latest release by the sport's world governing body Thursday.

2014 World Cup champions Germany (1,729 points) continued to top the rankings followed by Argentina (1,534) and Colombia (1,456), reports Xinhua.

2010 World Cup winners Spain occupied the 10th place while Iran jumped 10 places to the 41st place.

African Cup of Nations (Afcon) champion Cote d'Ivoire rose eight spots to 20th. Afcon hosts Equatorial Guinea advanced 69 places to 49th.

India stayed put at the 171st position.
