Baburaj, Moulika Ram in semis of tennis championship


Kolkata, Feb 12 (IANS): Unseeded Nithya Raj Baburaj of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh's B. Moulika Ram entered the semi-finals of women's singles competition of the 2015 Central Excise Open Grass Court Tennis Championship here Thursday.

Baburaj beat Asha Nandakumar of Karnataka 6-2, 6-7(4), 6-4 in a quarter-final and will face eighth seed Preethi Ujjini Friday.

Ujjini defeated fourth seed Thanushree Vale 6-2, 6-2.

Moulika Ram also advanced to the last four stage, beating third seed Manya Nagpal of Delhi 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 at the grass courts of the Central Excise Athletic Club.

In the men's singles quarter-finals, top seed Shaik Abdullah defeated Mizoram's Basil Khuma 7-5, 6-3 while second seed Vijay Kannan defeated Abhinav Sanjeev of Tamil Nadu 6-1, 7-5.
