Swine flu toll in Telangana goes up to 58


Hyderabad, March 3 (IANS): One more person has died of swine flu in Telangana, taking the toll to 58 since January, officials said on Tuesday.

The health department on Tuesday said it has received reports of one death and 26 positive cases since Monday.

According to a bulletin issued by the health department, 113 samples were tested Monday and of them, 26 were found positive.

The state continues to report swine flu cases despite the increase in day temperature.

Officials, however, pointed out that the cases have come down to 26 from 63 the previous day, the highest during the last one week.

Health authorities have screened 4,992 people since January 1 and of them, 1,558 were found positive. Majority of the deaths and positive cases were reported from Hyderabad and neighbouring Ranga Reddy district.

Officials said enough stocks of medicines and testing kits have been made available at all teaching, district and area hospitals.

The health department has advised people to take all precautions and approach hospitals on the first symptoms of swine flu like high fever, sneezing, cough and body pain.
