Tunis, March 19 (IANS): Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi and Prime Minister Habib Essid visited the injured victims of the gun attack on the Bardo Museum in the capital Tunis in which 19 other people were killed.

Essebsi and Essid visited the victims on Wednesday. The prime minister was accompanied by a government delegation including the ministers of health, defence, culture and justice, Tunisian news agency TAP reported.

Two armed terrorists attacked the Bardo Museum on Wednesday which killed 17 tourists, including visitors from Japan, Italy, Colombia, Australia, France, Poland and Spain, officials said, adding two Tunisians, one of them a police officer, were also killed.

Security forces have killed two gunmen but are continuing the search for accomplices, BBC reported.

Officials said that more than 40 people, including tourists and Tunisians, were injured.

President Essebsi said the country was "in a war with terror".

"These monstrous minorities do not frighten us," he said.

"We will resist them until the deepest end without mercy. Democracy will win and it will survive."

Prime Minister Essid said: "It is a critical moment in our history, and a defining moment for our future."

At the time of the attack, deputies in the neighbouring parliamentary building were discussing an anti-terrorism legislation.

Parliament was evacuated, but later reconvened for an evening session.

Many Tunisians took to the streets of central Tunis to protest against the attack, waving flags and lighting candles outside the museum.
