Mangalore, Feb 21: Regional Provident Fund Commissioner D John delivered a talk on `Employee Provident Fund and Miscellaneous Provisions Act and Social Security in India' at the SDM College of Business Management on Tuesday.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that unfavourable government policies have kept social security schemes far from the masses. It is a welcome sign that certain political parties are thinking of starting new schemes for the unorganised sector

Speaking about the Social security concepts, John said that medical benefits, sickness and maternity benefits, family benefits, employment injury, invalidity and survivor benefit and old age benefit are some of them. He further clarified that Pension is not the amount paid from the employees, but is the the amount derived from the 12 percent of the wages that the employer pays for the security of the employees.
