Mangaluru, Mar 27: The 24th conference of Karnataka History Congress went under way at Mangala auditorium of Mangalore University at Konaje here on Thursday March 26.

The conference, which is being held under the aegis of the university's history department, was inaugurated by the head of history department of Delhi University, Prof Upindar Singh, is the daughter of former Prime Minister of India, Dr Manmohan Singh.

Speaking on the occasion, she said that the treasure of intelligence and creative zeal of the middle ages are being purposefully overlooked during discussions on Indian history. At the same time, she lamented about shortage of skilled historians for conducting this study. More than the daughter of Dr Manmohan Singh- She is an accomplished Historian and Head of the Department of History at Delhi University. It is an insult to her- and to her accomplishments. Kindly note this.

There is no History taught to students of today.Everything is crammed in a book. When I was studying 30 years back, we had lot to study about past and present history. But recently when my daughter passed out of CBSE 10th std , she was not aware that there was something like world war 1 or World war 2. Forget about Indian history. When an article came recently about 50 years memorial of World war 1,she was wondering what is this!. So how can we get good historians if the present syllabus does not create the basic interest in history students during the formative years
