UK: Vincent D'Souza elected president of MUKA

Nottingham (UK), Apr 21: Vincent D’Souza has been elected the president of MUKA – Mangalorean United Konkani Association.

The election was held during the biennial general body meeting of MUKA after the Easter celebrations at Bramcote Memorial Hall, Nottingham. Jeevan Menezes led the prayer invoking god’s blessings on the gathering. John Fernandes, the outgoing president welcomed all the members and expressed gratitude to all the office-bearers and members towards their support in his tenure. Secretary Deepak Alvares read out the report and teasurer Stany Sequeira presented the accounts for the year 2013-15. Both biennial report and accounts were passed by the body.

Jeevan Menezes conducted the election of the new committee for the year 2015-17. Vincent D’Souza was elected president unanimously.

The elected office bearers for the year 2015-17 are as follows:

Vincent D’Souza – President
Lydia Lewis – Vice-president
Pius Rasquinha – Secretary
Naveen Lobo – Treasurer
JeevanMenezes – Communications co-ordinator
AnithaSequeira- Cultural secretary
Deepak Alvares – Liturgical secretary
John Fernandes, Julian Noronha, Melwin D’Souza – Additional committee members.

Vincent D’Souza, founder president of MUKA accepting his second term, thanked the outgoing president John Fernandes for leading the association successfully. He asked support from the new committee and members and promised he would strive to bring the community together for promoting Konkani.

A discussion was held with regard to organising the programmes for the current year and it was decided to hold annual summer day out event on July 25 this year.

The meeting concluded with a hymn.
