London, May 8 (IANS): Britain's Conservative Party and the Labour Party on Friday were competing closely to garner an overall majority in Thursday's general election.
A party needs to win at least 326 of all 650 seats in the House of Commons to form a majority government.
The Conservatives, headed by Prime Minister David Cameron, have till now, won 184 out of the total 650 seats, BBC reported.
Ed Miliband's Labour Party has secured 182 seats, the Scottish National Party (SNP) 54, the Democratic Unionist Party has got eight and the Liberal Democrat six.
Cameron said the election result is "clearly a very strong result for the Conservative Party", adding the party has had "a very positive response to a very positive campaign".
He said the Conservatives published a manifesto squarely for working people which he hopes to be able to implement in full.
