Udupi, Apr 13: Kasturba Hospital, Manipal here will conduct a free ‘Parkinson’s Disease’ clinic from April 11 to April 17 as part of World Parkinson’s Day. 

According to a press release Parkinson’s disease is a disorder that affects nerve cells in the part of the brain controlling muscle movement. People with this disease often experience trembling, muscle rigidity, difficulty in walking and it also involves the secondary symptoms like constipation, difficulty in swallowing and sleep problem.

Unlike other serious neurological diseases, Parkinson’s disease is treatable though not completely.  Treatment methods include medication, implant of a device that stimulates the brain and surgery, the release stated.

Treatment for Parkinson’s disease can minimize disability, help the patient maintain the highest possible quality of life and reduce the possible side effects of drug therapy, stated the release.
